I always new it as Ponds.
The 3 subs, the old type 12, the tanks and the landing craft were a famous local land marks.
I remember looking it up a bit ago to find more info on the yard after seeing it for most of my childhood coming off the ferries from France and I believe it was Harry Pounds. Can only assume the names been a bit shortened along the way for you to arrive at that spelling.

No you wouldn't because the Chinese definition of "scroat" might easily apply to you.
Especially if you enjoy arguing on a social media platform, you might end up in a re-education centre which would make a UK prison look like (even more of) a holiday camp.
I would love to see more UK police but Chinese state sponsored policing? Hmm, nah. I'll pass I think.

I'll give it a shot anyway: China does not tolerate any form of criticism from its own people. Their policing is not aimed at "crime" in the way we know it but at population control. If you were a progressive philosopher, a gifted artist or a brilliant journalist, that's going to get you into trouble if someone in authority takes a dislike to you. So no, we do not want Chinese state controlled policing here thank you for asking.

When I lived in the Philippines you could buy steel by the length or the foot. Secondhand steel or branch new 6 metre lengths. Aluminium too, window or double glazing profiles, to make your own window frames.
One secondhand steel place I used quite often had an old guy, had to be 70 or more, whose job it was to cut the scrap into sellable lengths. Never forget him squatting on the floor, with a hacksaw and cutting 3” diameter hydraulic ram shafts into 12” lengths.......
It’s a different world out there.
