Do we think that is ever likely to happen?
I can't think of much in the way of materials that has ever got cheaper.

He'll sell it for whatever the market will stand. If he's the only one holding the prices up he'll get stuck with the stock. If not, then he's still going on market value.

A month or 2 ago steel was cheaper than it was 6 months ago so did you offer to pay him more for any old stock he had left over that he'd bought in at the higher price?

Maybe steel needs date coding . . then you can go into your local fabricator and request which bit of steel you want him to use, as it will be cheaper to find a bit from a while ago . . .

no, I paid what he paid plus AT LEAST a reasonable mark up.

in a way it is date coded in the form of rust, so if he has a load of rusty old UB lieing outside, that will need blasted before it can be used then it would be a bit cheeky to expect £1700 / tonne.

Just to bump this - I went to check on some RHS and noticed prices on Brundles have jumped up about 15% in the last week.

I heard it mentioned on the news this week that when the Russians invaded Ukraine, they seized the biggest steel plant in Europe, held it and then blew it up. Got to impact prices.

Even if it didn't, it's another excuse for price rises everywhere! Seems to be the way of the world

One of our suppliers has told us they are no longer holding prices for more than 24 hours. They quote you order within the 24 hours or you go to the back of the queue. I think it is the only way smaller suppliers can survive in this chaotic world.

I found that buying aluminium sheets this week. Quoted price only held for 24 hours. Having some concreting done and stone driveway finished off, quote went up from less than a month ago, taking into account materials increases and quarries and plant now having to use white diesel instead of red. Stupid **Language**ing idea there...

Steel went to high prices in the not too distant past , then came down to cheap as chips.

I was speaking to someone earlier who’s tenant is a concrete firm who is really worried about the future of his business because his supply of cement from Spain has stopped.
I guess they will have to buy from UK producer and pass costs on to their customers now ?
