Hi folks,
I've some 1/2" (12.7mm) round bar in 316 stainless flavour I'm trying to cut threads in with a die, the die is a new one of a decent brand, I'm using cutting oil but having issues starting the thread even with a chamfer on the end of the bar, and when I do get the thread started it wants to cut wonky all the time, no matter how I hold the stocks, even with the die rotated so the locating screw holes are opposite where they normally sit.
Can anyone shed any light as to what I'm doing wrong? Before anyone suggests cutting them in a lathe, I haven't access to one, nor the knowledge to cut threads with one!
