The Ivans weren't slow in relocating Ukranian John Deeres a couple of years ago. Opinion at the time was that JD would have no trouble disabling the stolen vehicles, but I suspect there are suffiently clever Ivans to counteract that.Roumer has it that at least one manufacturer can immobilise their harvester through the sat nav if purchase payments haven't been met yet can't actually switch off the sat nav.
Istr NASA or some other agency were keen on finding unused 486 chips a few years ago, might have been something to do with the larger internals being more cosmic ray resistant. One project I worked on the chip used for doing the design on earth was circa £300. To get one that was representative of the space variant but could only be used for testing on earth was £85k per chip. The ones built to actually go in space were "let us know and we'll find out the cost of interrupting the fab plant's production to build your handful of chips".
