Space heater gas usage???

cant say ive ever noticed the bill go up?
the oil filled rads on the other hand absolutely Cain the electric.

then again ive got solar panels on the roof and have allways had some form of elecrtric heating in the utility room so it might be offsetting the costs?
allways planned to get a proper rad hooked up to the central heating supply but have never got round to it.

Watts are watts sadly.
A 1kw oil filled radiator left on 24/7 will cost £115 a month.
Gas and oil are about 1/4 the price.

Mine is only on for a few hours most weekends & can't say I've seen my electric bill go through the roof

A few hours isn't so bad.
People faff around with turning things off on standby etc when the current draw is minuscule. Anything involving heat and electricity is what knocks up the bill.

I'm on electric store heating and overall its fine, its 'maybe' three or four hundred quid a year more expensive than a wet system but the choice was more related to to my previous 17 years use of the property than today. Realistically swapping now to a wet system at todays fuel prices would take about 7 years to break even, however that swap is on the cards later this year (I think)

The reason that the change is possibly viable is twofold, one I plan either solar harvest or ground source to supplement the supply.

The second is the realisation that having retired my daytime demand has increased dramatically. As the dual rate tariff is biased toward overnight store and unit price during the day is more than the 24 7ths loading it means using an electric heater to warm my workshop etc during the day is unthinkable. Another hobby here means my transmitter final stage sits at about 400W load in standby and about 3500W on transmit... that has become expensive as I have a little more time to actually use it.

So whilst I have moved entirely to LED lighting etc, turning the phone charger off is not my biggest concern :-)

Hi its freezing in my shed (after been told i have to remove my wood burner) so looking at getting a space heater with a 47kg gas bottle, but i'm concerned it will drink the gas and i will be forever buying bottles.

How many hrs roughly would you get out of a 47kg propane bottle running a Clarke Little Devil 2

I tried to heat my barn with a gas space heater so I could spray one of the trucks, it ate two of those 47kg bottles in six hours. Admittedly it was a big heater but they are one greedy mother to run. Its a bit like the gas forklift I bought to replace the knackered diesel , I doubt if I put two gallons of diesel a month in the old one and the gas one uses a bottle a fortnight @ £35 a pop. Calor is for camping

you can get less powerfull ones like a 250watt panel heater which i guess would be half the price to run,
but in comparison to gas heaters that seem to have a common theme for condensation issues i would have thought the extra would be worth it?
ive got no idea on oil so cant comment.
the amount of time i spend in the utility its never cold in there so it does a good job.
if you could get a thermostatically controlled one i would have thought would be best to keep the costs down but i only run it in the winter months so dont really feel the pinch.
