Called my local distributor in Dorset and they said they've got a wait list for the 20L bottles at the moment. Apparently they're struggling to get hold of them? Seems odd, but what do I know.
Probably gonna end up going with a BOC account as the refills for SWG are £60 round here. Shame, as the distributer isn't far from me, but I can't be doing with waiting around not being able to get cylinders when I need them.

Hi ,
We are putting 2000 brand new cylinders a month into the system so there should not be a problem with supply , if anybody can't get a cylinder from their local distributor please let me know and I will sort it.
By the way around 250 distributors at the moment and still looking for more , including in Europe.

Hi, can Agautosport (or anyone else) tell me if Southwest Gas are still giving £20 cash back on the purchase of the first 20l cylinder Argon? The last post on this thread to that efffect was in Sept 2012.

Hi Alan, you say first cylinder but do you mean that or £20 back from the deposit? I had a bottle of argon mix in November 11 and you gave me £20 back. Now I just picked up a 20l bottle of oxygen from a different distributor and paid £60 deposit. Can i claim another £20? :-)

Hi,
The cashback is not from your deposit , it is just a promotional tool , you still get the full deposit refunded when you surrender the cylinder. We have given more than one cashback in the past when a customer buys 2 different gases so send your invoice in and I will sort it for you.

I just investigated rent free bottles again as I'm running low on pure argon. I was thinking of Albee but this seems a better deal. It seems there are a lot more companies around offering rent free cylinders since I last looked.
I'll be going for 20 litre bottles of argon and argon mix, I may also get an oxygen bottle for a propane set-up for heating and braizing while I'm at it!
I called the local supplier CPA Carparts in Petersfield and he said he had taken 5 calls today about Southwest Gas, they quoted me £60 rental and £80 and £58 for argon and agon mix gas for 20L, all plus vat. Not bad when I think what I've been paying BOC for 2 bottles the last 10 years.

I have swg oxygen and argon mix and I'm pleased. I don't understand why hobby guys use Boc etc...
Make sure you pm Alan and claim your £20 back too ;-)
The regulators will fit no problem. I think Boc bottles have the outlet straight out the top where as swg bottles are on the side like most others.

Glad to see that you are considering our cylinders , please remember that the £60.00 is a deposit and is fully refundable , it is not , and never will be a rental.

Is the SWG 5% the same as argoshield light, which has 2% oxygen?
Has anyone found it to be any different from argoshield light in using it.
I do like my argoshield (light or universal), but I am thinking of switching.

I'll be very interested in others experience of this too. I have a 20 litre SWG Argon mix bottle and whilst I can still produce perfectly acceptable welds with it, it is certainly different to my previous argon mix bottle from Migtigarc in Portsmouth. (which is claimed to be rent free but actually there is a charge of around £40 for 3 years use.) I don't find the arc as smooth with the SWG bottle - maybe because it doesn't have oxygen in it ... or maybe because it has, and the MTA bottle doesn't! If anyone knows I'd be interested.
