Years ago that was possibly sound advice. But with the switch to online but more importantly this not stocking a lot of stuff locally but having it on next day delivery is awful.

How can you not keep stuff in stock if you know this and you don't get much time to do things anyway....let alone waiting for consumables.

Best to sort out the everyday useful from the may come in handy one day useful, everyday gear needs to be accessible. The rest can be put into storage. cant beat drawers for the everyday gear.

I'm always expanding my tap, not dies, as they will always come in handy, those obscure sizes, on a weekend, emergency repairs to x.y,z. They're always useful.

I've got pretty much all sizes/types I generally need on the tap & die front, so I just buy any I'm missing as & when I need them now.

Never really need dies, and when I get my lathe in I'm going to learn the dark art of screw cutting.

I keep saying that...lol. Had a lathe for 36 years never cut a screw in my life. Lol.

1st lathe I added a gearbox from parts.
Sold it before I cut a screw.
Then got a master 2500 and it even does reverse but there always so much more important things to do.

Bisley drawers are handy.
Big enough just to get stuff in, small enough that you can keep the contents to quite a narrow range so that you can label it and actually find what you want.
Big drawers get stuffed full of all sorts and you cant locate anything that you actually need. IME.

Yes, the 15 drawer Bisleys are very useful. However, if you wanted to relocate one, would you need to empty it? I've seen one or two which have split down the seams. They were mostly intended for storing paper, and if you fill them with nuts and bolts, I think the shells struggle with any attempt to move them. There are some similar types to the Bisleys which prevent the drawers from being pulled out to the point of falling out (which the Bisleys do); good for storing delicate stuff.

Yes. I filled one and tried moving it. They do "lozenge" and make a good impression of a parallelogram if you aren't careful. As long as you don't shift or overload them they are fine.

One day....

I've never cut a thread yet, with the lathe itself. I find dies way too easy & quicker.
