Weather permitting, Applecross sometime over Easter break. I prefer the drive down the bealach na ba, as I get to take in the breath taking view, also Kishorn dry dock as you descend.

The Maureen Platform was another great build by Howard-Doris. Designed to be re floated at end of field life, Maureen was re-floated, which of course was a firs for a production platform, unfortunately no buyer was found when Maureen was put up for sale, Maureen now redundant and scrapped.

If there was ever a likelihood of someone taking potshots at me I'd prefer to have a gun myself, go down fighting rather than have your hands tied behind your back and your head sawn off.

I was recently working at a certain UK MOD base where there are armoured 4x4s scattered about the place for the on-site special forces to use in an incident. None of them had ignition switches because, as you say, they are started by transponders carried by the squad. You can see them on Google Earth, but that's all I'm saying

I've been looking up this place like mad on the web, I have several ideas but nothing firm, anyone wanna help me out with some hints? Not knowing is killing me

Errr... maybe... can't say it rings any bells. Most of them had 4-digit numbers. I keep typing snippets of info and then deleting them: I'm not worried about a knock on the door but it would be a shame if the Funnymentalists got an edge because of something they read on an open forum. Put it this way, when the resident 'security' team run an exercise, as a contractor you bloody well co-operate

EDIT: aha, if by A90 and A91 you mean where I think you mean (power of the internet ), I have been there (to the site, not the buildings) although not for years... Burghfield and Winfrith as well though again, not for a good while.

My brother's claim to fame is that he once weighed an oilrig... piece by piece. Absolutely everything, from the lorry-loads of plate that formed the main structure, to the paint that went on it, to the handrails, towel rails, glass in the windows and the plugs in the sinks. It was quite a high-profile job at the time... it was called:

I worked in amecs rig yard and they weighed some of the modules before they went off shore

The first two are the dessert in Northern Kurdistan, I was there last summer just before the ISIS thing got a little intersting.

Third and Fifth pictures are an oil rig in the north sea, cant remember which one !

Fourth and Sixth pictures are in the Med, just off the coast of Tel Aviv. I was on the dive boat with the twin cranes. It was imppressive, that thing could lift 4000 Tons. Dive boat had a remotely operated under water sub, i had a go at piloting that

Those first two remind me of my working in Kaskstan,,, in the desert,,, very cold in winter

When anything gets put (or taken off) on a platform it's weight is put on a document (forget the title now) - obviously important for really big things eg pipes, pumps etc, but even down to the instrumentation and wiring it gets done.
