Absolutely. I used to race cr500's and other than piston, rings and the odd rebore, change gear oil every session. That was a bomb proof engine.
The crf450 however was a major headache. Valve timing every other race, top end then complete engine rebuilds on the hour. Way too much agg
Plenty of 4T rolling chassis available to put 2T motors in though................lol . Honestly cant see why anyone who has to pay for their racing themselves would want to go the 4T route, unless they are pretty wealthy, like the 4T sound and money no object!
Development stopped on 2T bikes some time ago, but I would guess with a reasonable rider, good suspension and set up, a good 2T is still pretty competitive? The 4T craze in trials fizzled out pretty early on, but not before some truly awful bikes such as 320 Sherco and 250 YZ powered Scorpa had been foisted on unfortunate buyers!
