2000 x 2000 = 4mil![]()
I dunno if you're just taking the ****
2000 gas meters plus 2000 electric meters is still 4000 meters in total
2000 x 2000 = 4mil![]()
They dont like it as an engineer may be working on that phase down the road, they've turned thier bit off but don't know uou are firing 240v down the other waySorry to try and bring this thread back on track but I have a question....
Do these new "smart" meters run backwards when your solar panels produce more than what you consume ?
The reason I ask is I was interested in getting a few panels and a grid-tie inverter but my current electric meter will display an error if electricity tries to flow though it backwards and then apparently the elecy company will start asking awkward questions thinking your trying to fiddle it.
I'm not interested in feed-in tariffs because I haven't got the money for that kind of install, I just fancied a few panels fitted by myself and a plug-in inverter, dead simple setup that covers my base load and helps to reduced my bill.

most times if they can they short the cores to earth so no current can back feed but not much use if they disconnect it to couple upYou probably need a old mechanical meter for that, be careful what you say to a electric supplier they very sensitive about what feeds back into the grid as some of the cheap plug in units on the market will still feed when the supply is disconnected. so if they have to isolate a cable to work on its still live via the back feed from the inverter still generating power.
Miserable sods, it annoys me that those with money can afford to get approved solar installed and then get paid the feed-in tariff that the rest of us are paying for, while all I want to do is reduce my bill a bit but I'm effectively blocked from using a more affordable plug-in setup because my meter will assume I'm trying to fiddle it and make problems for me with my supplier.Don't think so - friend of mine has PV panels with a conventional meter and he was told to inform the supply people if his meter went backwards so they could fit a meter that doesn't.

A plug-in grid-tied solar setup that didn't cost the earth that the average DIYer could install themselves to me is a no-brainer. I would only ever install a system that powers it's self down if the mains is disconnected so there would be no chance of frying anyone working on the power lines.
its obvious they will be hacked at some point from outside sources, people have hacked far more secure networks, if its run over a public network people will eventually access them and what stops them closing down the full country with the right software and algorithms
