yep you can get cheap kwh but high standing charge or vice versa depending on how much you use. some don't even have the standing charge

Most clients have their own MOP contract and pay an annual charge to the appointed party. Costs can vary significantly between different providers but are usually in the order of £300 to £500/annum.
dont think it wont be done think again as it will be once enough people are on the smart meters

Not got a smart electric/gas meter at home or at my workshop.
But the workshop water meters keeps failing/leaking/exploding over the years. Lost count how major floods we have had from poorly installed meters.
They have dug a new manhole and put some plastic meter intergrated thing in it.

The standing charge is for the supply to the property, not just the meter, same as line rental on your phone.
Regardless of who owns the meter as far as I'm aware you'll still have to pay it if you want gas.

Same, I got a resistered letter from them, saying that they were unable to get a reading, unit not working and that their meter reader guy couldn't access it, and I was to take the reading for them. I just called, asked how they managed to install it without access, still in the same place, nothing has changed access is fine...... as for me taking readings, the whole point of the linky was for remote readings, if it's not sending them, it's obviously broken, so you better send some to fix it....ok agreed, that was a month ago, no one yet, waiting for the next letter...

aye agreed, seem the system doesn't work as well as they've hoped. This "no access"... basically they no longer have the resources because they've laid off their meter readers thinking Linky will replace them, but now want me to do their job for them.... aye that'll be right!

hes actually correct if you buy your own meter and have it fitted you cant be charged a standing charge fee
however getting someone to feed your meter is another matter

probably because the gov said they got to spend x amount a year to save people money on there gas and electic remember a few years ago you could get free bulbs ? now they are susposed spending the money to reduce our bills by putting in this stupid meters
what was wrong with the old system a reading every few months they say you owe x and you pay every month they say give me a reading what for i know what im going to spend ruff as i got my watts for gass and electic for a whole year it dont ever change much

Having meter readers was back in the good old days when they was usually someone in the house of a day. What proportion of homes have that now?

My spreadsheet runs from Jan 1990 to date. OCD moi?
Actually quite interesting seeing the electricity consumption gradually increasing as the boys got older then dropping as they left home and the step-change in gas when I had the cavity insulated.

I see it as being organised and prepared, especially when the electricity company tries it on, as some are inclined to do.
The spreadsheet for the light fittings and bulbs (lamps if you must) is another matter.
