No, I'm not in sole control of that.

My dream when doing the house was to have one type of fitting, ES or B27, and as few bulbs as I could. That went as well as you can imagine.

All these different bulb types do my head in, why do they need to over complicate everything

Having meter readers was back in the good old days when they was usually someone in the house of a day. What proportion of homes have that now?

I've been providing my own meter readings for forever, at least 15 years. I've got spreadsheets to prove it too.

I do the same, quite interesting that when the old back boiler was replaced with a modern the gas consumption dropped 27%

Lot of modern houses have outside access to meter box, still ^^Co cant find one we have! even with a post code 8 fig map reference & photos from road.
They say they are going to force entry, should be interesting, wanted a new door anyhow the 3\16 plate & 40x40 3mm box behind the old wood will slow them down

From what I remember from the article, it stated that it was for gas meters and the gas safe fitters fitted them as they had to register the readings. Not entirely sure but vaguely remember something about swapping from imperial to metric meters.

not from what i remember as it was on the net and i do remember the post rather well about being able to fit your own meter and have no standing charge on it

the main problem was getting a gas supplier to fuel it

you can guess most of the time unless its our own meter we wont supply you sort of problem

but from what i remember of reading it they got someone to supply them so therefore had no standing charge/ meter charge

They're designed to save you money by making you aware of electricity you're using/wasting by leaving things on when not using them. Turn them off and you save the money.

The way they advertise it and phrase it is very misleading and I think they've had to change it now as the more recent adverts aren't as bad.

Some providers offer you a cheaper tariff if you agree to swap to smart meters, as mine did, however, I haven't let them come and change the meters due to the current world health situation

I had one fitted a few months ago. It took an hour, all done and dusted, now I have a little readout that tells me what uses what in pence per hour etc. Not surprisingly, electric shower is the biggest user, followed by boiling the kettle etc.

No idea what my welder costs, or air compressor, grinders etc, but they’re not getting a lot of use currently.

I’ve not changed the way I live at all, but it’s useful to know what things cost to run.

Chargers and charging cables too. One charger and one cable that does the lot would be nice.

its not rocket science to work out what power an appliance is using. you don't need a poxy standalone to tell you. if its 1 kw and your tariff is 16 pence a kw that's what it costs an hour to run

well one thing for sure im not going to be paying 300.00 for a unit that tells me those details

those little meters that tells you what you are using.lasted a week then put in a draw. not interested what I'm using as I already know.
EON did try to raise my monthly payment even though I was in credit.
told them no. if it goes over I'll settle the difference,

Most people wouldn't understand that though, actually seeing how much you're using at any given time can make people think about how they an save a few bob here and there and make changes to their lifestyle to reduce their bill.
Simple changes like turning things off rather than leaving them on standby, swapping lamps for more efficient ones, turning the thermostat down by a degree.... etc.

Or, I just look at here freebie standalone any time of the day and see what consumption is... to save researching all 50 consumers in my house.

This is why in like Bulb, they won’t let me over pay very much. I’ve heard tales of people being hundreds of quid in credit and not being able to get their money back etc, but not me.
