got the usual blurb on phone do you want to saver some money .well yes but how does the meter save you money ??it registers what you use . i said what is your standing charge and what is your kwh rate she was a bit stumped and said it varies so whats the bottom line she couldn't answer so I said thank you for wasting my time have a good day and hung up

I had to have them in my new barn conversions, when booking installation, every person I spoke to was told theres no signal they wont work. But you have to have them, yes what ever I just want lecky in. Dude turns up in the petsisting rain after a 21/2 hour drive to install. He says its raining they are outside, Ill have to come back another day.
Following week, again a 21/2 hour drive he arrives, fits first one then says Its not communicating. So we have two I need to read.

Further to my recent rant about smart meters & my previous energy suppler fitting a smart meter my new supplier being unable to read it, I raised an official complaint with my previous supplier.
I have now received (in writing) a confirmation the meter fitted was a smets2 second generation meter.
The problem seems to be Ive not got a dumb supplier who is unable to read my compatible smart meter.

I don't understand this, Scottish Power don't charge anything other than the standing charge which was there before. I allowed the smart meters to be fitted and can honestly say they have not made any difference to my fuel charges either up or down unless I count the power the little dial thing uses showing me how much I am using at any given time, about 2p a month I reckon.

They're designed to save you money by making you aware of electricity you're using/wasting by leaving things on when not using them. Turn them off and you save the money.

The way they advertise it and phrase it is very misleading and I think they've had to change it now as the more recent adverts aren't as bad.

Some providers offer you a cheaper tariff if you agree to swap to smart meters, as mine did, however, I haven't let them come and change the meters due to the current world health situation

I didnt think they was a compulsory install but blame your water company for being greedy and not having the water ways or collections for it

you will find the reference under business side of it it hasnt been implemented onto normal customers bills yet

as its been posted on this forums

but the collection charge is 220.00 per year to collect all the data from your smart meter

so do away with the meter reader and charge the customer to collect the data from there meter

Hopefully next week I'm moving away from a smart meter, over to a 3ph meter.

So the smart gas meter is now dead as well, being as we've moved from Scottish power to OVO.

I can't remember which company it is, but there was definately one or two offering tariffs with no Standing Charge last time I changed suppliers.

I may have already told this, but early this year EDF / Enedis fitted the French equivalent called a Linky, chap was in and out in under an hour, showed me how it works, all fine. Three months later a knock at the door, woman from Enedis - ‘I’ve come to read your meter’, no need says I, I have a Linky! Woman says the system isn’t working, we’re having to read them manually...

To be honest I'm not to sure atm, I'd been trying to get Scottish Power to change the meter over to 3ph since we moved house last May.

They kept stating that due to Covid 19, they weren't changing meters because of the infection risk, but 2 people at work have had Smart Meters electric and gas meters fitted while being on furlough both are supplied by Scottish Power. So if you let them save money its ok, but make them send a meter reader out

So I found a supplier willing to agree to change the meter before I jumped ship, hence I'm now with Ovo on standard domestic rate, give a it while and I'll move again.

I can't see why the power companies won't change meters being as they sub- contract the work out. Probably because they are trying to do away with meter readers...

There are 3ph smart meters available, we appear to have one a work, so I couldn't see any problem.

British Gas have been doing this for years - and catching pensioners out with their promises of no sc. I had to explain, carefully to my parents that a higher tariff on an amount you would use every month whatever is exactly like a standing charge - you pay it every month whatever. It was more slanted against low users too...
I actually went with them for my supply, worked out cheaper due to high use. However, they then changed the amount of units at higher rate without telling me, took me a couple of hours to work out what they'd done. I cancelled immediately on principle....
