Is it a single start left hand thread
Single start right hand thread, at a guess I'd say it was 3/8" but I'll measure it tomorrow.
The bottom slide bar is left hand thread.

In '72, when I trained as a "motor vehicle fitter", it was we learnt to "fit" parts, not like today where you just bolt a new one on!.........................Yep, I have two model M lathes now and they are totally different in subtle ways. Most of the parts won't fit without some 'adjustment'
Indeed, I am no stranger to getting things to fit. Just one example though on these lathes, the front T slot is a different size. Now I have spent 40 years in engineering both in design and the shop floor. It was not a good practice to deviate from the drawing to such an extent that different T nuts are required for a machine bed!! Note these machines are from the same 5 year era of production before the mark 2 came outIn '72, when I trained as a "motor vehicle fitter", it was we learnt to "fit" parts, not like today where you just bolt a new one on!.........................
Manufacturing has improved over the last 50 years!Indeed, I am no stranger to getting things to fit. Just one example though on these lathes, the front T slot is a different size. My lathe was an oddity though as you know.Indeed, I am no stranger to getting things to fit. Just one example though on these lathes, the front T slot is a different size. Yeah, I am fairly sure it was a prototype as there are many differences. Too many for it to be a Friday afternoon special One thing I will say, it is a workhorse and still as accurate as it was when it came from the factory (either time!)My lathe was an oddity though as you know.
Even the cabinet seems to be a one off.
At some point in its life it went back to s&b for a refurbishment too.
Well that is doable. I would have to screw cut it but that is where the challenge lays and the reason I offered! Again, I will see if @doubleboost is interested if not we can go to PM and sort sending it over. I have brass not bronze in stock if that will be acceptable?Photos of the measurements.
Yeah. From my amateurish tests I was impressed with what it could hold.Yeah, I am fairly sure it was a prototype as there are many differences. That was my thought too. You aren't planning on continuous production from what I recall so it should be ok!Unless any lathe experts think otherwise I don't think it'd be under enough load for brass to be an issue? It would wear quicker, but given how much use I expect it will get it's likely to outlast me.

I am sure I have a 3/8 acme tap got some bronze as wellWell that is doable. I would have to screw cut it but that is where the challenge lays and the reason I offered! that looks like 1/2 inch in that case I have a right hand acme tapLooking at the dia measurement it looks more like 7/16" 10 tpi.
If you (and @My Old Landy ) are happy with that I can post the bar and nut to you. If you PM your address I'll get one of those postage tubes to drop them in, let me know what I owe you for it and the return postage then when it's done you can re-use the tube to send it back.that looks like 1/2 inch in that case I have a right hand acme tap
Making the nut would be no problem
