hmm... you've got me thinking now... I can't remember that 2 prong thing at all

either they didn't all have them, or we didn't have any problems with them so I didn't pay it any attention

now I think about it... on the earlier engines I'm pretty sure that cold start advance is driven mechanically, from some sort of wax stat on the thermostat hosing and a cable down to the pump


looking at photos again just now you have an EGR valve, so must be a very late engine, 2000 or 2001 I think - I'm not 100% sure on year but it's deffo a late one

I'd either remove the egr or jam it open - most vans I saw had a cable tie holding them wide open

The egr is supposed to have a rod working it, I think from over to the injection pump

it's 20 years since I've seen one and the ones we had didn't have them - or maybe one did and it was cable tied open


for a tractor I'd look at removing the egr valve and fitting an air filter right onto the manifold

yes i have no egr lol
the engine i have had its egr removed years ago, think it was thrown in the bin long before it became mine, it looks like the ports where it fitted were welded up and as you say there should be a rod back to the injector pump that opens a flap in the inlet manifold

i cant see the need for all that manifold stuck up in the air if theres no egr inside it so ive bought a earlier inlet manifold off ebay thats much lower and will be easier to fit an old style air cleaner on

ive also found an earlier exhaust manifold old log style that will fit on upside down so the exhaust can go straight up through the bonnet

i think the axle was intended for a small jcb 1cx maybe , i bought a pallet of then from jcb think there was 5 on the pallet there was a time when jcb sold stuff off at auction if they had to much stock and warehouse space was short, i also bought a pallet of wheels and a pallet of tyres , its not much different to a standard axle except its much stronger and has mounting points on the nose of the diff for a hand brake and the hyd motor its great attraction to me was how narrow it is i think its 50" across the mounting faces, i dont know what other axle is narrow enough i did think about transit and narrow it down a bit, they plenty strong think thats what brisca F1 use
did consider using hyd drive but thought top speed might be limited and then you need oil coolers etc , some of the big toro mowers use a Peugeot xud 1.9 diesel engine with a nice belling housing on the back that has a big hyd pump bolted up to it to drive all 4 wheels and all the cutters which is what i considered for my power pack but any engine would work i guess

i think it was a product call "chassis black" from my local auto paint supplier it was 15 years or so ago

hmmm... I was asking about axles because of a late night idea of building my own compact tractor.... plow, power harrow, front flail, a chipper and a log splitter would be nice...

I've been looking at compact tractors but not many have front pto for the flail and not many enough power for a decent chipper... my thinking being if I went all hydraulic then it would be easy to power/drive everything


but.... I've got way too many things going on to be building a compact tractor at the same time :-o

well the engine has had its first clean, gone from this

to this needs a bit more before its ready to paint

time to hang it in the chassis and make some engine mounts shortly
