I've already got a Honda ED400 12 & 24v charging generator but it's quite a large & heavy unit so I'd like to build a custom lightweight range extender / charging generator for use with my mobility scooter.
Idea is to use a small four stroke Honda engine as fitted to strimmers, pumps mini cultivators etc. Models GX25 (25cc, 2.7kg, 1.0hp) or GX35 (35cc, 3.3kg, 1.3hp). This would be coupled to a small permanent magnet alternator - say 12v 22a 1.7kg type fitted to small tractors, mini diggers and such. Obviously a regulator would be required.
At present just planning / dreaming stage
What method of getting 24v (I know 28v is really needed) do people recommend ?
At present I can see my options are
(a) find a 24v alternator (could be difficult)
(b) use 2 x 12v identical alternators in series (would that even work ?)
(c) use a 12v alternator then a 12v to 24v inverter.
Any advice, suggestion, opinions etc appreciated.
Thanks.
