I found my dog could warm up the Land Rover on a cold night but once he got too warm he would jump in the front and leave me to fend for myself.

To be honest I always prefer to bivi outside anyway

Right spoken with the surplus place and they havnt seen the tank suits for about 10/12 yrs they must be fitting heaters in tanks now !!

but I have a clean pair to leave in the car for sleeping in they are great coz if too hot you can open the zips and when it gets cold again just zip them back up.
and if you need to 'go' no need to get dressed coz you already are !!

Some of us who were stationed in northern Germany were lucky enough to score a tank suit - there was absolutely nothing to compare to the comfort of these down lined sleeping bags with legs.

One feature was really quite strange. there were two zips - one running from the right collar bone to the right ankle and the second on the left side of the body. When both these zips were completely undone the whole front of the suit flapped down between the legs to give the appearance from a distance that the user was wearing an animal skin with a long fat tail.

As a sapper, even though we operated in armoured personnel carriers with the commander (me) sticking out of a hatch like Rommel, we were not considered entitled to be issued with such luxury items so we bought them on the black market - usually torn, smelly and greasy.

Mine was patched with duct tape and had big black stains over half of it but I wouldn’t have swapped it for 20 great coats.

I got fur lined big sleeping bag from go outdoors that was down in the fish section, Its not a double but quite wide almost a snug 2 person or a big single, I've slept in the back of my toyota granvia in it when i can't be bothered to drive home, I think it was £45 so not a bad price

I have a snugpak four season. Rated down to -10c. I felt plenty warm camping when it went to -7 overnight (I was wacking the water bag to break the ice to make a brew the next morning).

I was at a breakdown today near to a "go outdoors" shop.
They had a 60% sale on. Came away with a "TF Gear sleeping bag".
As used by the fishing community, not a light weight but it feels nice.
I will find out next week end

Shame, I was looking forward to the video's of a comma cob being transformed into a luxurious camper, complete with log burner.

I use the JRC bag that is designed for the extra large Carp fishing bedchair. It is the biggest bag I have and it has a square section profile. About £100. Thermarest or similar under it in your car will be fine.

Mine is here and seems to have gone up a bit in price. Might get discounted of course. Extreme model towards bottom of page.
