I have bought some e torx in silverline brand and I was well impressed I do think its hit and miss I recently purchased there needle file sander and in 5 seconds of turning it on it melted but as for the few sockets and stuff I have overall for the price I'm happy but I dont think there electric side is any good

@powderblast my Silverline power file isn't great, But looks like your belt has come off the runner to melt that plastic?

Looks like the belt is not on the drive roller and has eaten through the cover.

It is just the belts that are carp

i bought one because i could buy the larger belts for belt sanders from toolstation cheap and just cut them to size mine machine melted so looked at getting the better black and decker but there are crafty and made it so you have to get the correct belts so looking at the evolution one because i think the belt size is the same

yeah thats what happend it was not tracking properly out of the box and before i could track it the damage was done

I've never had an issue getting replacement belts for the B&D finger file, great little tool. Thanks for the heads up, wont get a Sline one...

As someone said, main issue is quality control. Have had a silverline compressor for about 9-10 years, cost about $300 paid for itself first job. Doesn't get much use now, mainly blowing up tyres, air gun and odd bit of die grinding, getting bit noisy now and takes an age to fill but otherwise still fine. Certainly couldn't justify replacing it if it went pop.
Same issue with B&D, had a mains drill had switch fail after about 14 months of occasional light use, replaced with a Kawasaki, absolutely hateful thing and is now stuck on permanent hammer mode. My 8yo B&D 4" grinder is STILL working fine and that gets used constantly.
Mate at work got a Milwaukee drill / grinder set, less than 12 months old, both have been replaced for faulty switches and the replacement grinder melted itself. Just before lock down his charger packed up and melted a battery !!!!

trying to get an awkward bell housing bolt out today , only room for short spanner, then a long one into the jaws as you do to get enough leverage , nope big spanner bending nut stuck fast...ooh er the big one is the cheapo silverline 19mm that I bought to replace a proper spanner that went awol, change to an old elora, first push bolt came undone. says it all really , if you want rubbery spanners they are good and nice chrome , but for me thats a no thank you from me

Out of all my 15 angle grinders(Bosch,Marita,hitachi +1 old wolf),I have a silver line,4.5” new in june2015,in use 5 days a week,replaced 1st set of brushes this January,can’t believe how durable it is,maybe I was lucky and it slipped thru the net.

theres more chrome on the outside of the spanners than in the steel

the reason i got the silverline one was because i looked into the belt size and you can save alot buying toolstation sanding belts 75 x 457mm and just cut the down to 13mm the belts from toolstation were £2.59 for a 5pk and each belt you can cut down and get 5 belts so thats 25 belts for £2.59 but its just unfortunate that it melted in 5 seconds the black and decker im sure are a different belt sizes and toolstation dont stock that size but the one which is the same belt size as the silverline is the evolution model which i think i will look at getting as i have the evo 355 chop saw and its a tank so i would expect the finger file to be good

They are actually quite well made. The surface speed is slower than a B&D and underpowered in comparison but being slim you can get it in where the B&D is too bulky. Great on GRP, very controllable.

I got a compressed air one .given its brilliant came from a production line in a factory problem was the belt size I managed to get a load for next to nowt from autojumble but they were a bit shorter so cut the spring loaded rod down to suit happy days

That’s a classic situation where quality tools earn their keep. If you’re working on vehicles (or anything else for that matter) in tight spaces you can’t afford to have loose tolerances, bendy metal or big clunky jaws/ring ends. And you certainly don’t want stuff breaking on you all of a sudden. My main metric spanners are from Unior, lovely to use.
