Worst tools on the market from toolstation.

Neve ever buy them if you're thinking cheap buying,Aldi and Lidl are cheap and cheerful but at least they last some time.

I was looking at that air compressor kit for £23 just a couple of one off jobs or more,the kit came yesterday and the pic on the website looks as though its all metal....hah! the sodden handles are plastic,well they look plastic but as I'm taking them back for a refund I darn't take it out the heat wrapped packaging as that would void my refund so cannot really say the handles are metal or plastic but I'm guessing plastic as the weight is not all that heavy,the paint pot,oil pot is Aluminium.

Rubbish,rubbish,rubbish.....never again with silverline landfill/

What did you expect for £23! Don't forget that some plastics are stronger than metal (but probily not the ones that have been used in this case)

I order tools for work & I must say without bias that the screwdrivers & twistdrills & other tools made by silverline whilst being cheap I don't rate them at all I have to agree with you George

Even the staff at my local Toolstation tell us not to buy Silverline.

It is better to yourself rather than buy their stuff.
Anything I have purchased till now are in the bin !Totally agree with you GP.
I am not going to waste my money on their cheap and most of them without any thought stuff!

I shall email tooly of my dissaproval of their silverline range emphasizing that we could do without building up landfill sites popping up everywhere

Should have learnt me lesson first time around when a tap wrench spanner I bought off them,the head just snapped off,looked at the spanner and the metal was cast metal ie that brittle metal that breaks under force.....rediculous.

Whilst I agree that most of their stuff is pants. I can recommend the large air nailer & the finish nailer.

I have done over 50,000 90mm & 20,000 60mm nails with one & about 50,000 but in sizes from 19mm to 70mm with the other. Apart from a few screws, the 150mm x 6mm nails in the main floor joist & the shingle pins those two built my all wooden house.

As with everything you get what you pay for, at least with Silverline they have a lifetime guarantee with all tools and 3 years on electrical, i wish i could say the same with other buget brands.

I have quite a few of their tools their tungsten scribers are the best i've use, Their range of engineers squares are billiant and at half the price of many others as are their Orange Welding Clamps.

I`m guilty of giving them business, I bought a car polisher, Like a big angle grinder, first one burnt out, - replaced without any hassle and postage all sorted out so cost me nowt, second one been faultless and its had a hard life with very, very regular use from me and my son, Maybe fortunately, i havent had any other Silverline stuff.

You buy the cheapest of the cheap then complain they're cheaply built?
Those handles don't look plastic to me, they look like they're cast metal, just like every other cheap air tools kit on the market and most of the not so cheap ones too.

call me old fashioned but i use moore and wright james niel and starret measuring gear . if im not that fussy i use cheaper brands

What do you expect for £23, perhaps try Machine Mart for exactly the same kit. I know of no one who would complain about Machine Mart gear at a given price.
I can assure you its all metal except the rubber hose and coil - fact bought one 10 years ago just for the parafin, coil and blow gun, got the rest free.
Hoses wont last that long, theyre a consumable used daily might last 12 months.

Probably a very light die cast zinc alloy. As mentioned, £23 doesn't buy you a lot. nowadays.....
But you are right, silverline is mostly rubbish

I bought a Silverline Router Bit. It was the only one I could find at the size / shape I wanted. Nearly took my finger off when it disintegrated.

Ive always shunned Silverline as cheap and nasty, however they do products which are quite useable.
The only branded ones i have got are small oil can that leaks when giving it some and a hot glue gun.

Back to OP try that parafin gun for cleaning your car engine!

Stanley still seem half decent to me. I've got a Stanley chrome vanadium 1/2" socket set that's been used and abused for the last couple of years and IMHO it's excellent.

Also have a Stanley wood saw that's top notch.

OTOH my Rolson precision screwdrivers are too soft and hence rubbish and Silverline stuff seems like a false economy to me.

In fact, I tend to only use Toolstation for hardware and ironmongery. For tools I use Screwfix as they generally provide "good bang for the buck" whereas Toolstation is all about being cheap, cheap, cheap.
