Is "King Dick" still going? well that was on the the rachet I was given 15 years ago,still going strong.

Last British manufacturer of general hand tools so far as I'm aware and they should be supported; bought a couple of their anniversary sets (numbers 36 & 37 out of only 150
) and they are almost too nice to use! They don't get daily abuse but I'll bet they outlast me. Not cheap, but you buy once. The clue is always in the price

I confess I do buy Silverline tools deliberately.
Their 6" wire wheels for bench grinders are great, last for ages and slowly wear out rather than spraying bristles everywhere.
They also look suspiciously like other ones selling fro twenty quid. I pay about six quid for them.
The angle grinder versions are great for doing hedgehog impressions for Mrs C.
ie bloody useless.

I think were all adults here, We know we get what we pay for, Some tools are dirt cheap and last yonks and some break on the second day, like wise Expensive tools some are great some are crap, Its the way the world goes.
Common sense tells us if we pay peanuts for a tool and its no good then its our fault, Its no good trying to pass the blame or making complaints, Whats that all about??

I bought a big Silverline air nailer from Toolstation, Ive put about 4 thousand nails in so far and its brilliant.
I bought an oil suction tool though which fell to bits.
I wouldnt have bought a fairly costly but low budget brand tool like the nailer normally but the long guarantee sold it, if it outlasts the guarantee Ill be happy.
My opinion of Silverline is very variable quality but the guarantee sometimes makes it worth the risk.

Dirt cheap tools like Silverline, or Amtec are only good for if you need a tool for a one off job, and don't want to buy top brand. I don't think anyone is claiming they are to be compared with real tools.
As for Aldi ,i got packs of Powerline 115mm thin cutting disks that worked out at 14 p each ! the best deal i was getting was a pound each, and i cannot find any difference compared to Bosch, or any others, i went back and bought the whole bin full, never seen them again though. I'm still working through them 2 years later, plenty left.

Very variable quality but tending towards utter rubbish. Can you be bothered to work the guarantee, find the receipt or register and all the rest?
The best cheap power tools I've had are from Aldi and Lidl, which are fairly good and very good for the money, but you have to wait 'til the offers come round. They also have an impressive guarantee, if you can be bothered with it. They're nothing like Makita etc with good spares support, but for that price who cares?
