Sikaflex sealant/bonder

Evening all

I'm looking to get a few tubes of this gear, but there's loads of different types. Anyone know which one I need to seal up the edges of my boot floors? I want to paint over it too.

tiger seal is what you want.

As above or just go to a paint shop supplier and ask what seam sealers they have some are half the price of tiger seal

Sikaflex or Tiger seal are just trade names, Its generic name is PU adhesieve sealer

Don't get more than you need it doesn't keep once it's opened. It makes good rubber bullets though.

If you try online at an industrial supplies you can buy an "Everbuild" polyurethane sealant which is pretty much the same stuff but 1/3" of price. Its actually a bit better since they have slightly changed the formula so the whole tube dosn't go off like Sikaflex. I am a Marine Engineer and use loads of it and have a lot less wastage with the Everbuild stuff. I buy it from "fynepax industrial supplies" in Dumbarton.

So these generic PU sealants are fine to be over painted? And pretty much ch anything labelled polyurethane is OK to use?

If it's the Sika number you need go for 221
We use loads of the stuff, It's what holds these together plus one or two rivets

Sikaflex-221 if you choose sikaflex that is. You can paint over it as well if need be.

Ever build pu40 is what you need. Or any old polyurethane sealant will do.

yes it can be over painted,But,let it cure first,depending what you've put the PU on depends how long it takes to go off.
Put it straight over bare metal or over a new weld etc,over fresh paint might take longer
Oh word of warning,its messy and a b**** to get off your hands,sometimes

Easing oil/ wd40 or whatever is to hand gets it off quite easily.

I used to wash my hands in the Trichloroethylene tank as did everyone else

All pu bonds the same way, sikaflex, tiger seal etc etc are just brand names, like Hoover is to vacuum cleaner

No gearbox it's direct drive then toothed belt

Paul, it was just an expression! I know there's no gearbox, I used to own a Hoverair Hoverhawke like the one in the Portsmouth Hovercraft Museum
