I have one of Lidl's 4-sided different grade diamond sharpening gizmos.
Not one of the finest accessories but adequate for shed knives. Also an oil stone which I rarely use....

I can't remember the last time I used a wet stone since buying a jig. Came with 340-2000g stones. As Migmac says keep them sharp. Its a lot earsier to put an edge on a sharp knife than a blunt one.
My dad said keep a knife sharp and you will always respect it.
I always wanted to have one of those traditional kukris
Instead I got one of these.

Wet n dry with cooking oil does a great job.yea it's not exactly like the traditional kukris.
No problem it's better than nothing.
As for sharpening tools, I have a Lansky similar gizmo and I hate it.
I don't "feel" it.
I prefer sandpaper to sharpen knives.
Time-consuming but I love it.
, so how sharp do I really need?
The force is strong in you.so it goes through a turnip like a lightsaber through a youngling.
so how sharp do I really need?![]()
I said "Watch, that's very sharp". First thing she did was draw her thumb along the blade
That's what I get for buying cheap crap off Amazon. The Amazon special "BearMoo" wet stone is here, supposedly 3000 and 8000 grit but I'm sceptical. The 3000 side feels pretty similar to the 1000 grit side of my old stone and the 8000 grit side is clearly finer but not that much finer, 2500 grit perhaps. Obviously that's very subjective, going off the feel of rubbing a finger over the surface and the drag on the knife while sharpening, and there's probably a cognitive bias from my distrust of of cheap tools, but I don't think it's 8000 grit.

It definitely is finer than my old stone, the knife is sharper than I've gotten it before, it instantly "grabs" when laid on a fingernail and there's no hair left on my arm.I'll try it out cooking later which is what really matters, it's not like I've ever struggled hacking up an onion anyway and I don't even eat tomatoes, so how sharp do I really need?
A bit of me is still tempted to order a Naniwa "Super stone" though, at least that I can be confident is the grit it says it is.

Maybe it's a good thing, now I have two.![]()
Does your Puma take an edge? I have a Puma skinner that is absolutely rubbish, won’t take an edge at all. These are my three main ones.
Old Brusletto that goes on wilderness hunts, light and easy to sharpen.
Puma that was a gift from a good mate.
Benchmade Skirmish that I swapped for my Bear gun when I did my last season in Alaska. Its gigantic for a folder but thats probably why I love it.
Over here you can carry a knife if you want. Even a sword if you have one.View attachment 341368

Yes
But I have a electrically driven old school circular whetstone. The kind you sit behind on a little seat.
Puts an edge on anything. Puma's are hard as hell.
