Well, I stripped the vice and reversed the hal-nut saddle this morning. It has helped, but the thing still slips, just less quickly. The only way that I can stop this from happening is to remove the quick release mechanism, stack washers on the half-nut spigot and bolt the saddle back on over it. This restrains the half-nut and the vice now holds, albeit without the quick release.

Puzzled.

It sounds like there's wear somewhere then. The places you'll tend to find that are on the leadscrew & nut, &/or the hole in the front jaw which the leadscrew passes through. Any notable wear on those? Is the hole diameter notably larger than the leadscrew OD, or oval?

Hello all

I picked up this little Noveto Brevette with rotating jaws.

I rather like this & it's a surprisingly heavy & solid little thing. It still has its locking bar that you just slide into a gap behind the front jaws to stop them turning (I do like how basic but effective a piece of design that is). The checkering on the side of the front jaws for grip is a neat touch too.

I've also taken a pic' with the Fortis swivel I got recently.

Any info on this little beast welcomed.

I had another look this evening. There is a little wear in the hole through which the leadscrew fits, but not much at all. Looking carefully at the section of the screw that is in use when it slips, the crests of the thread where they engage with the half-nut are flattened. This will have happened when I tried to straighten the screw.

Until I can find a better leadscrew, I shall restrict the movement of the half-nut and do away with the quick release. At least I can use the vice.
