I think it possibly is original as it all works ok & nothing sort of looks like it's been disturbed (if that makes sense), however who knows? I do think though that the crappy fit is maybe due to Fortis castings sometimes being as rough as a badgers backside !

yeh i agree , brass is a good choice but fit looks really poor

I wonder whether anyone can help? I have a old Record 84 quick-release vice which is playing up, mainly due to being abused. Often, when tightening it up, the screw will slip, the jaws pop open and whatever is being held falls out. The screw was bent, but I have managed to straighten it. There is plenty of tension in the spring that keeps the half-nut engaged, which does not appear to be particularly worn.

Does anyone have any suggestions what else could be causing this?

just something that may of use, i have an army issue 84, had a bent screw, got a fitter to weld the original nose to a record 52/1/2 screw, they are the same thread, and works perfectly, it maybe that it is still bent, that my 2 pennys

Hello all

I picked up this little Noveto Brevette with rotating jaws.

I rather like this & it's a surprisingly heavy & solid little thing. It still has its locking bar that you just slide into a gap behind the front jaws to stop them turning (I do like how basic but effective a piece of design that is). The checkering on the side of the front jaws for grip is a neat touch too.

I've also taken a pic' with the Fortis swivel I got recently.

Any info on this little beast welcomed.

I had another look this evening. There is a little wear in the hole through which the leadscrew fits, but not much at all. Looking carefully at the section of the screw that is in use when it slips, the crests of the thread where they engage with the half-nut are flattened. This will have happened when I tried to straighten the screw.

Until I can find a better leadscrew, I shall restrict the movement of the half-nut and do away with the quick release. At least I can use the vice.
