I bought a couple of shelf units for the new shed and "double parked" them in the garage to store some of the contents of the old shed, I'm making (slow) progress, it's about 70% empty now

i couldnt find this post the other day
so as was saying the floor and the bottom of wood sheds always catches the worst rot
now we either jack them up by using bricks walls and allow the water to drip off of them or in most case get around the issue of a wood base and wood sides
plastic 3x2s and the wall of the shed screwed to them gets around this but you still have to consider drainage

It was worse than i thought so i ended up jacking the frame up and chopping the floor out. I'm off too Wickes tomorrow too search out some decent timber. I reckon it's all down too an enclosed base, so i'll make it a little higher and leave the sides open for through flow

It didn't have any keys when I got it second hand in the 70's so I put a hasp & staple on.

Well it's empty, time to start dismantling it, how many of the 20 year old screws will come out?

Door off and glazing out ready for removal crew.
Most of the screws came out so it didn't take them long to dismantle it.
Just the base left.
I filled a bin bag with the leaves that had collected under the shed to reveal my 20 year old "footings".
I think I got "arm pump" wielding a club hammer and bolster chisel to dislodge the bricks, I wish I hadn't done such a good job of mortaring them in but it's all clear now.

when you said you had upgraded to composite bearers i thought you meant 3x2 composite
but what you have there is more like 2x1 plastic bottoms i wouldnt have paid much for those hell it woud have been cheaper to go buy a 3/4" window bottom and trim that and screw that to the wood base

I noticed those shelves are MDF ,
I had some new shelving and their chipboard and went mouldy over the winter ,I did later notice it is recommended to varnish them if it going to be a moist atmosphere ,
It's on my too do list before next winter to coat them with varnish or more likely bedec barn paint ....
Might be worth doing before you fill the shelves ??

Never knew they existed...they look very handy for shed bases...assuming they don't degrade.

I had similar shelves on another unit which failed (sagged) after a few years so I replaced them with much thicker plywood, I will do the same with these when needed.
