Last May the environment agency made it illegal for sewerage tankers to empty their waste at sites they have been using for 30+ years,
The government-run alternative sites are at capacity and won't be expanded for several months.
Septic tanker companies have stopped taking bookings to empty septic tanks as they have nowhere to dispose of the waste.
As a result of the rains in recent weeks South West Water (SWW) has gone into "Storm mode", triggering legislation which allows them to pump raw sewerage direct into the sea in certain circumstances.
Lots of problems being reported, houses with septic tanks nearly full are in crisis mode, owners of septic-waste companies fear they will go bust before the situation is resolved, and unprocessed sewerage is being dumped into the "Blue Flag award for cleanest beaches" sea.

I'm resisting a lot of the obvious comments as this is a family-friendly forum and I'm about to have my tea.

Man digs hole in own garden as septic tanks can't be emptied
A new South West Water treatment plant should become operational in the summer

Household sewage disposal timebomb threatens Cornish environment
It's feared it could lead to yet more pollution in our rivers and oceans
