look you buy what you want too but one thing with cameras is there either not good, pinchable or good quality and all come with there own price

ip cameras are the better sort knighty showed that point well even ive upgraded to them at cost but its been worth it for very clear pictures

Of course once you know whose dog's eggs they are left outside your house it is a nice neighbourly gesture to save them up & pop them back through their letterbox.

Save a few up and let them 'ripen' first - double bonus of saving your legs and easier to pour through the letterbox...

Yes and no. The issue is that you really need a CCTV grade hard drive which of course cost slightly more.

All really depends on if you want a CCTV *system* or just an individual camera. For the individuals I quite like the Reolink as they will record to MicroSD and don't need any kind of DVR/NVR but the quality is not as good as for example Hikvision.

you can also upgrade your cameras when you want or can afford too

sd cards can go faulty and its no fun getting the sd card out of the camera when needed

ok we found this and a bit over budget but we can cope.

and me thinking on it could be a faff to wire it all up unlike the Reolink ones which are fully wireless, we would also need the solar powered ones to charge the batteries, no big deal though. T likes the idea aswell on the Reolink that it has a speaker on it so if we got two then it can be low down under the front door canopy.

Now though Gaz you got me worried about the SD failing, a sin loosing all recordings or just stooping more recording goin gonto it ?

one would be just a ladder up to the gutter camera to change it.

DVR is for recording video from analog cameras. Basically you have a camera which outputs a video signal and the DVR or Digital Video Recorder converts that into a digital file (eg mpeg) and records that file to a hard drive.
NVR is for recording network video off digital or IP cameras. Basically you have a camera which converts the video into a digital file and then squirts it across the network. The NVR or Network Video Recorder takes that streamed video and saves it to the hard drive.

The quality purely depends on how much you spend and the cameras. Typically NVR's *are* better but that's really because they're newer technology and you get 1080p or even 4k cameras (my Hikvision NVR will do 4k)! You can get decent enough quality out of a DVR setup but honestly these days I wouldn't bother.

The main upside to NVR's over DVR's is that you can get POE cameras which are all powered from the NVR. That basically means a single CAT5e (or better) cable from the NVR to each camera. You can also typically add WiFi cameras if they share the same network as the NVR. The cameras typically have more features such as movement detection etc.

With a DVR you need to run coax *and* power to each camera. The cameras are typically "dumb" and any processing (eg motion detection) is done on the DVR.

FWIW we've got one camera which we fitted a MicroSD card in (didn't bother with the others), bought it just over 2 years ago. Still working fine.

For ones with cards that get re-recorded over - might be an idea to regularly check the recorded footage. My dash cam claims to re-record - but if you don't format occasionally, it fails to do so. As I discovered when wanting some footage of some twonk driving up the wrong side of the road in Bradford, forcing his way past traffic at a red light and turning left into flowing traffic, causing all sorts of mayhem.

Took our Westie for a walk this morning on a route I haven’t used for a few days , cleaned up after him then went to put the bag into the nearest dog bin only to find some scrote had set fire to it burning nearby trees and bushes. The 2 nd time it has happened .

there is a comminutiy board at the top of the road and a local FB page so i will add all images to that, and a few others have said they will do the same.

Careful now. You’ll be posting the images to facebook in order to identify people so they can be reported to the council for dog fouling of course, no other reason.

Part of the reason this guy got clobbered was he posted (or maybe just threatened to) images of the neighbour on facebook as a ‘suspicious person’. This wasn’t consider a ‘legitimate’ use of the images.

Absolutely, totally 100% recommend this. Absolutely amazing video quality day and night, great motion detection, free streaming to the cloud (although I also stream my to my local set up).

Prices seem to vary between £50 and £70 so hopefully right on budget.

Thread resurrection but I was just browsing Amazon and these cameras are currently £36, down from £63 RRP or the £53 I paid.

I've really got nothing bad to say about this - can stream locally or free (for one camera) to a cloud location.
