Securing an up & over garage door

If things go according to plan, I should be getting a lockup garage next month.
It's typical brick built in a block of garages, and fitted with an up & over door only (no back or side door)

I'm hearing good things about Enfield bolts as retro-fit security, any comments ?
Or possibly modifying a lock from a roller garage door (GLIDEROL etc?) to shoot bolts into the frame just above ground level ?

The door has a traditional Henderson lock, in the past I've removed a similar lock and replaced it with a "Handle-less" lock (think of vintage train carridge locks where the key is also the handle, remove the key and the lock is flush). Does anyone know the name of the lock I need, or any suppliers?

The door currently has single-point locking inside, is there a simple (& cheap) way to covert this to multi-point locking?

I'm trying to avoid any big locks outside (to avoid making folk think there are valuables inside), but any / all other suggestions are welcome.

^ Thanks for taking the time to list the topics (maybe also be helpful for others in the future), lots of good info but I can't find answers to the particular questions I asked (* Enfield bolts do get a short mention, so they're now on my to-do list)

Remaining questions - who makes "handle-less" locks for Henderson doors, is there an easy way to convert single-point locking to multi-point system ?

Hi, Handle-less locks are generally called 'budget locks'. They used to be fitted to rail carriages and buses, we just used to use a large screwdriver to operate them. So they are not that secure.

I'm in the process of putting an electronic lock on my garage door. I've found a suitable solenoid bolt which arrived today, and am just waiting on a bit of unequal angle before I can mount it up.

Idea being that I can slip the solenoid body behind the spring rod on one side - the unequal angle will be for both mounting the solenoid body, and then to bolt accross the top of the door to anchor the bolt into. I've checked the clearances and hopefully it should clear

The solenoid chosen is a fail secure (so you energise to retract the bolt). You can get these with a key override if you want also and they take a euro-profile body.

Here's my finished install...


Net2 ACU in a 2A PSU Cabinet



Fail Secure Solenoid Bolt (£40 on eBay) and some 25x25 Ali Channel. I chopped off a couple of pieces to act as brackets either side of the bolt, and its up flush with the door frame. Thats then screwed into the door frame, and the solenoid is bolted to that.

Channel had a suitable hole chopped for the bolt's magnet plate (as it detects when the door is closed and re-locks, as well as tells my Net2 if the door is open still, or forced). Then bolted to the lip of the door.



Paxton KP75 keypad on the outside - because I picked it up cheap Prox and Code, so we can use whichever we have handy (for me a prox fob, for my partner her code). Means we can give couriers a code that's valid for x period of time and then disable it later. We have lots of CCTV in the property so I have no worries about that being abused.
