I plan to strengthen my Up and Over Garage door, in an attempt to prevent it from being forced and bent to gain access.
My plan is to bolt a frame around and onto the the door of 3mm - 25x25mm Angle Iron, affixed by coach bolts and reinforcing the existing cross section battens to the rear of the door also with Angle Iron
Or, insert the Angle Iron or maybe 13mm Dia Round Bar into the hollow vertical channels of either side of the door and also into bottom horizontal channel, by drilling a hole on either side of the bottom channel and insert the Angle Iron or Round Bar and do the same for bottom channel, although I'll have to insert the bottom strengthen bar from the side; for top channel/top of the door, I'll bolt the Angle Iron to it.
Although, the above, in my opinion are ingenious ideas, colleagues and also what I've read on the Internet, seem to suggest that strengthening an Up and Over Door is pointless due to the original flimsy construction ?
I also have garage door locks either side, plus original locking system, (which I plan to improve) and a slide bolt with good quality but normal looking padlock on the outside.
I'm aware a determined thief, (they're certainly not a professional) will get in regardless; most tool thieves want easy access, without too much effort and without awaking occupants of the house or the neighbours.
All opinions invited
