Secondhand portamig 235?

oxford, tec arc or portamig is there any particular model that is better or pretty much all the same?

It is an Oxford "Migmaker". It does have a capacitor bank, the wirefeed has geared 2 roll drive ( but not 4 ). The output power ranges from 280 Amps down to 40 Amps, which is too high for you. The Seller reckons you can bring the 40 Amp low end down by using 0.6mm wire.
This model was apparently built by TecArc for Spaldings, an agricultural supply company in Lincolnshire.

Well judging by the reply responses it seems I wouldn’t do to bad if I opt to chose a oxford, tec arc or portamig is there any particular model that is better or pretty much all the same? What are these Cebora machines I’m seeing or better sticking the route I’m heading as I have seen some shop display machines from tec arc Im seconding wether to make the plunger or holding it with my £450 budget for good second to hopefully pop up

unless Imissed it you havent stated what your welding, I had a tec arc 180(ish) for years excellent tool , as stated if your doing car tin you want portamig/tec arc/oxford that has a low start say 30amps , if doing no car work and using on steel box/angle etc 2 or 3mm upwards one starting higher is fine.
It really is horses for courses , let everyone know what your main use is going to be.

Hi pal thanks for the reply In the opening post I mention I want it for bodywork and messing about with steel tubing as well as making jigs and such also gates and so at a later date. Yea I’m just weighing out wether to go for the new machine now probably go for 240 A’s from reading all the replies and other posts and so come to the conclusion getting nag a machine that is going to last 10 year or so so possible go for the Tecarc or Oxford been offerd few so many to pick from can see why is all to easy end up wasting money but I’m very drawn to the tec arc and oxford just deciding between them really

for £300 the second hand one sounds good to me if fully working and good condition..eitherway .enjoy !

Hi James thanks for the reply how long have you had yours now if u don’t mind me asking?

you know what i actually can't remember but it must be at least 3 or 4 years old.
i know when i got it the curriers had dropped it and delivered it upside down so not the best of starts but it has worked perfectly all the time I've had it.
the only negative i would say is its really heavy, so not the easiest thing to lift in and out of my van for mobile use
