The grenades are good. Youngest uses one to, not many logs stop it. A maul is pretty good too

other, cheaper, versions are available. but this one works! you need a lump hammer to power it, tho.

make one of those up just by using angle iron welded together

in fairness my Clarke 4 ton splitter does a great job. Haven't used it in a long time as I only burn pallet wood these days. Big bearers cut in half with a Rage saw and the blocks don't need cutting.

I bought a Hycrack screw splitter cheap at a farm auction to go on the back of the John Deere, it needs a new table fabricating which I haven't got round to yet.

Forget the screw type unless your putting it on a tractor PTO. It will be a waste of time on a screw gun. If its going to be a long term thing, get yourself a small Clarke hydraulic log buster for 170 quid with a vat free voucher, or a proper big hydraulic one. Everything else is a gimmick. Even the log buster grenade jobbies, I've buried them inside logs that it couldnt split.

id rather make a log splitter pehaps! I dont split loads just enough for my own use

I love those splitters. I have split stuff with my hycrack that most would have given up on or had to use the chainsaw.

I had my Clarke from the return section - often located at the back of the bigger Machine Marts. It was something like £100. When I got it home it was leaking oil. There was a crack in the housing. I took it back and they sent it off for repair. Came back with a brand new one.
I find the motor overheats after long term use so I use a desk fan blowing on it.

I keep a selection of logs to use as pushers - far faster than waiting for the whole thing to cycle - ram only moves a small amount then. And you get more power.

My neighbour has one for use on the PTO of his tractor. Has not used it for years, as he thinks it is one of the most dangerous bits of kit that he has seen.
As for one on a hand drill..... a fool and his money are soon parted..

These axes work well. Flip for hammer drives the logs wide apart. Use in conjunction with a decent axe.

The hand appears to have five fingers? counting the remaining knuckles.. Is it from Norfolk...? I used to live there, and there were lots of tales.

If my log splitter over heats, a glass of juice cures the problem.
