Scrap prices?

I've seen a lathe on Fcaebook, with no price, but 'offers'.
It looks OK'ish, but is apparently next to a pile of rubble outside waiting to be sold.
So I can consider what offer may be rejected as derisory (Although sellers are a law unto themslves) - what is scrap value of a 850kg lathe nowadays?

It's got the collet closer tube in the chip pan so it may also have the collets.

Thanks @Pete. I wondered what that was in the tray.

I suspect it's too large for the space Ihave allocated - and I defnintely hadn't allowed room for a collet closer to go in from the left - so I'll likely be leaving it where it is.

Nice lathes, but very heavy. Will it be a bit small though, at 4.5 inch swing and 18 inch centres ? I find they are never big enough.

Probably worth about £150 scrap at 850kg, plus you have to get it there.

I know - but if they won't give a price, how can I insult them?

This is to replace a Clarke CL300 - so I'm thinking it's a fairly good upgrade. - not TOO much bigger, but a much better machine..

I just need the overall dimensions before submitting my derisory offer - and they haven't come back yet.

A fairly good upgrade ? Theres a bit of an understatement

OK - this is getting a bit serious now... It'll only JUST not fit the space I have for it, but it's getting to the right price.

Is it significantly better than a Boxford?

Toolroom standard. Boxford is educational / training. They are a good machine though as were Viceroy. Same market.

I know seadog but not much I can do as I am on a time scale. I didn't want to scrap a 8 inch buttler slotter. Snow grinder. Large threading machine but ya got to do what ya got to do unfortunately

i cant see what scrap price comes in to it

if they say offers i tend just bypass it as they are hopeing for an idiot to offer stupid money they are about but i never seam to get them to buy anything off me for stupid money (especially @8ob )

if im realy intrested i normaly ask how much there looking for they as i tend to insult people with offers they then normaly reply offers i go back with an 10percent of the item price
eg worth 200 id offer 20 quid
they normaly spit blood and get a direct no
my reply then is ok if thats not enough you then know what your after why dont we save a lot of time and you say

at that point they normaly respond with what they are realy after then you can haggle normaly

I offered £180 for it late last week They counter offered at £200, which seemed fair.
I then asked whether I could collect Monday (i.e. Today) and whether it worked or not - and they haven't replied at all since?
I guess I asked the wrong question?

So anyway - if anyone else fancies it (@Gareth J) £200 seems to be the rate.

So - having not heard back - I messaged back this evening to wish them well with the sale.

..and got a reply..

I think the crux of it is - they don't know how to get it loaded. It was moved to where it is by jacks and scaffold poles - and was apparently hard work! (Who'd have thought that at 850kg )

Interesting response to the 'is there any other stuff with it' - "Yes other chucks, possible a gearbox (by the look of it)" (sic) What would a gearbox look like??

And then I asked the question again.. Did it work when it was disconnected.. and it's all gone quiet again.
