Funny, just the other day I watched a video by Scooty Kilmyer on YouTube, he covered the oil burning subject, so many dealers telling their customers that it's normal to burn a quart of oil between services.

He says that crap, if a 4 stroke engine were designed and made correctly, it shouldn't burn any oil.

I gotta say, I agree with him,....all the cars I've owned have never burnt any oil.

I doubt that any life would be put at risk, if the fault were that serious and the vehicle couldn't continue on, it would simply call for a breakdown truck and taxi. I know that in the States for example, the 'vehicle' can already make a call for medical assistance after it's been involved in a crash so it's certainly a possibility in the future.

People didn't think folk would be put at risk when they did fly by wire and made cars not allow you to override gear choice, some folks are still dead because of it. Automation supposed to improve things that didn't actually need improving. How can you doubt people would be put at risk when some have already died.

The vehicle should never have the final choice.

Subject to having a subscription the BMW assist provides telemetry, which has backup battery I believe, is capable of knowing how many airbags were deployed in an incident and people making the choice in the call centre to despatch help. Think about 2008 onwards

Theres no excuse for driving your vehicle with one dipped working and main beam on the other side to compensate.

Thats normally a sign that they have changed the bulb but forced it in upside down. So dipped looks like main beam.

Yes im disagreeing with the statement you can't leave a bigger gap in traffic when the roads busy.

If a car can pull in front of me easily im obviously leaving more than a 2 second gap.

I have had people pull into gaps that have been way too small and if you ain't then you ain't done much on the motorways of the UK . My average week at one time was around 1200-1500 miles and I did that for years.

by leaving a bigger gap. :/ whats how busy the road is got to do with it.
Spend my days driving well loaded vehicles and always leave plenty of room regardless of how busy the road is. always get some numpty who pulls in but ease off and create the gap again.

Your talking about fantasy land or you drive some funny roads.. I will tell you straight there are roads and times that you really have no room to drop back into
In this case on the A59 there was but then that did not change the immediate situation, if he came off during the maneuver there would have been a pickup running over him before my right foot started to hit the brake..

Im not talking about the situation with the bike. Im talking about giving adequate distance between you and the car in front.

Yes. I deal with it on a daily basis.
You have two options. Tailgate so theres barely room for them to squeeze in
Or leave plenty of gap so you have plenty of time to react.

The 2 second rule is a guideline a recomended minimum if you will but like the speed limit in this country its treated as a target.

Rather than joining there rat race I ease off and sit back.
Id rather arrive later than not arrive at all. (Or in my case leave early)
M1 from junc 15 into london is possibly one of the worst ive encountered compounded by the so called smart motorways and general poor standards of driving that seems to be the norm here.
