I've never weighed anything in myself, but I'm told by others who have that as long as you have a decent load to warrant the time & cost of going - it's worth doing.
Not sure where you are exactly, but I think for me it'd probably be the lot in Cross Hands I'd need to go to.
Yep, Jay's up above Trelech on the route across to Tegryn, yes?The one in Carmarthen takes chasing up if you take it there. They're part of Airfield metals or whatever it is in Carew.
Never had any trouble with the big one in Pembroke Dock nor Jay's Metals up the other side of Blaenwaun although she's not always the best on price but never had any issue with her. Certainly the most convenient for me.
The good old boys will give you nothing. Best by far to gather it all up and weigh it in yourself.
No trailer and too much for the car.
Me and JAYs go back a long time, poor payers as you say..The one in Carmarthen takes chasing up if you take it there. They're part of Airfield metals or whatever it is in Carew.

430kg, 30 miles... Two carloads really, just for battsAnother classic is offering a good price to take it all but saying it's two loads worth. Will settle up on the second load. They take all the good stuff and forget the rest.
Take the batteries etc in yourself in a couple loads if needs be and let whoever take the rest for whatever price.
Comes from bitter experience I'm afraid.Hmph, you have a poor view of your fellow man. Last time I had them here I got £300 for three scrap cars.
unfortuantly I have to agree with you there , I would nt call them men though , men have a pair a go out and do a honest days toil.Comes from bitter experience I'm afraid.
