Satellite problems

At work I've got a problem that the sat box said no signal

The pic is after I've removed the sat cable to Reseat it but made no difference I've had this before and took me quite a time swapping cables boxes etc


If I bought a satellite finder will that cheak the wall socket for me ? Before taking every thing apart putting in new cables etc

a few things to remember with saterlites

there faults

rain/snowy weather
bad lnb
saterlite dish no longer in position
saterlite reciever faulty
wiring issue

a sat finder is only to check the dish is right

so from the wire inside is it there yes or no quick check yes / no wire issue or dish out of alignment alternative problem lnb now faulty

the signal is split

With a unit that supply's 7 tvs all other tvs are working fine

One of these feed the room if a signal tester works I can cheak the point in the room and also the output out of this unit as well ?

Last time I got no signal notice it was a pigeon sat on the LNB arm . Signal finders are no good unless you get a dear one, they will tell you if you are getting a signal but not which satellite it is coming from. I used a compass and the dishpointer website to line our dish up plus the Humax strength and signal quality meter in settings. Before that using a meter I got a good signal but it was all in Polish or something It looks like your problem is the coax cable or a bad connection.

that unit makes no difference unless any of the other tvs can use the saterlite signal

unless you do a direct link to the lnb that will check if the reciever can recieve or the unit is faulty after that its check to see if alignment is there using the finder

last time was the port that seames to be not working so could be the unit that splits the signal thats on its way ou but before buying a new one there quite expensive so want a few cheaks first

yes all the other tvs use the same signal it just feeds the 1 input from the sat dish to the box that feeds signal to the x amount of tvs


i can cheak if the others tvs are working so that way i know if the sat dish is in the right direction etc if all other tvs show signal and work fine i just need a way to test the out put from that one that is not working

If the other tvs are working surely it's just a wire swapping exercise to see if the fault follows the wire swap ?

You've disconnected the dish cable, have you unplugged the mains supply from the sky box for a minute or two then tried again (this is like a reboot )
I would first either try your box on a known good signal or try a working box on your incoming cable. Looking at the tape on the smart switch amplifier it would appear No 2 output has already failed for some reason.

yes that what i done last time but swaping wires/changes boxes powering them up takes a time adding a tester would help if it worked as i could see a signal and test in a couple places ? might save some time for £20 tester if it would work

yes powered off nothing unpluged removed sky card put back in all cables nothing so now have to a bit more in to it tomorrw


when i had this problem last time 5 months ago it was looking like that output was not working and thaty was me that put the tape on there ive yet to do more work on that as was planing getting a tester to cheak out put but there are allways other jobs in the way ive never got round to it


this seams to happen a couple times i realy want something that i can do a quick test and point out the fault with in a few mins rather than swaping stuff around back and forth


only thing i can think of that i have got is a 2nd box with sky card with cables pluged in to it unscrew the not working box and all cables and a quick swap over at least that would test to the point to the wall ?

You really need to unplug not just switch off to be sure of getting a proper reboot. A cheap signal finder is of limited use, you can usually learn more with a working box & TV. Do you know which multi switch outlet feeds your office, could you run a temporary coax cable?

yes a temp cable could be installed and run out side if desprate at least that would say if the ports working

When mine went down it was because the dish arm had broken off in a storm .

update done some woprk on it today swaping back and forth and its the whyte 8 port bought a bit of 25 meter cable and a few connectors made up a lead to confirm it and a 2nd port has now gone down so after a quick google and chat i went down and bought another unit exact same so swap out should be 20 mins work and we should be all up and running thanks peoples for the input

im glad that you sorted it out

now you see why we always say check the lines and if possible go back to original install direct to the unit as it takes everything thats installed inbetween out of the equation

the way you was going you was goinf to waste money on a tester to find out the issue was the box itself

i have a double socket so i can use it as a quick direct line test

the tester i was looking at was only 15 quid ive spent that on a cable and conectors so about the same but ive now got it incase i get more problems
