Rust again !

Some time ago i tried my best too erase these rust spots, but they have come back

Start to finish through the week, ground out rust spots and covered with Fertan, brushed on Lechler epoxy primer and flatted back and fill as required, several thin coats of Lechler hi build as I'm only using my 1.3 gun, quick guide coat of black etch primer from a can, flat back and feather and several coats of ie ? gloss too flat back tomorrow, match is good !

The plan is too fully strip the area with a some 50mm stripping discs, then spot blast the areas that require it, in addition i will try the acid treatment and have obtained a litre of this

But from what i've read it needs thinning by 40% ? and it's add acid too water from my school days ? PPE for this apart from visor and rubber gloves ? i will be able too doo it just outside the garage doors and get it back in out of the elements. then a 10% wash and apply the Lechler epoxy primer ? No rush a t present as there a few other bits being done on the pop over the winter and looking at a full blow over April ish !

If that brick cleaner contains any hydroclauric acid keep it away from metal

I would keep away from the metal then.
I may be incorrect but I believe you need phosphoric acid for rust, happy to be corrected if my info is incorrect

We sometimes use a hydroclauric based cleaner on hulls (fiberglass) if any drops onto the support frames it goes nuts and rust appears very quickly

Step away from the brick cleaner
Spot blast till all the black has gone then check the back, there is a pin hole under the blisters.

i you use brick acid to clean block pavers up well water it down. it takes the dye color out of them

I'd suggest stick with phosphoric acid to treat rust, rather than muriatic/hydrochloric acid (brick cleaner), its a lot less trouble.

However that might not be the issue, rather if it has pinholed what you might have is corrosion bubbling up from the back of the panel which is typical of that sort of blistering.
I second the suggestion of spot blasting the area which should help show up any deep pitting.

Unfortunately the interior is fully trimmed and redoing a headliner would be costly (the wife stitched it last time) it was treated and painted underneath before the exterior bodywork was attempted

Hydrochloric acid is the best rust remover of them all. Very aggressive though and the fumes can attack other things - as well as your lungs.
Flash rusting afterwards can be stopped by washing in caustic to neutralise it.

I used a bucket of hydrochloric/muriatic acid to de rust a bunch of steel parts, in my little sealed off car port workshop in the far east. I went away to work for six weeks and when I got back every piece of metal in the worksop was covered in light rust.

The relentless heat and the fumes from the bucket of muriatic had filled the place with acidic aires. I should have at least put a lid on the bucket, I guess.

After you use it you need to neutralise it with something as well. Can’t remember what though.

I've delved through loads of photos too see what went on with the roof change, it has a reversed mini roof fitted in the huge roof hole that pops came with, one thing i've noticed, that i thought i had done was the lead seam at the front. The drivers side was done ... i have the pics, i'm think some of it may be down to the other leaded seam maybe it's welder time rather than acid !

Caustic soda or washing soda - anything alkaline basically. Then coat with oil straight after.

Spot blasting will give the truth of it, I'm betting on pin holes and if that patch is in the same place, weld rust through due to condensation from inside.

Plenty of time too do it right, just a damn sight more too remove too make it safe too weld in there
