I only had 'sundry items' on one bill and I made them take it off. The guy tried to argue that it was stuff like paper towels, degreaser, brake cleaner etc. I asked him how do I know you used that stuff. He said we use it on every job. I said well then it's part of your shop rate then. I'm not paying more just because you want to quote me a rate 'plus a bit on top'.
It wasn't a lot TBH but that's not the point. We agreed a cost for the job and I'm not having it topped up just because the guy thinks he can nick a few quid more. It's like a window cleaner adding a few quid because he had to use his yellow ladder.
I had a bill with £3 to fill up screenwash bottle, I asked for it to be deducted as I made sure the bottle was full when it went in for the service. Probably just a standard charge they put on everyone's bill.
I try to stick with one garage for servicing but when they close/move etc. I have to find another, a few years ago I tried a new one which had a 4 page comprehensive check sheet including "3 mile road test" which was ticked, I always note the mileage when dropping off and it had moved 0.2 miles, I didn't go there again.
