Once had a look at the result of a Dodge tipper wagon fitted with a 2 stroke Cummings engine
The engine stalled then fired up backwards blowing exhaust out of the air filter.
The governor wont work backwards
Commer TS3 , my dad had one in the 60s. Think it was a 3 cylinder with 6 pistons and 2 cranks and a supercharger?Been warned about these in the early days - did not Commer sell two stroke diesels as well?
Only thing I ever got near was Dodge 50 trucks - these I think were more Renault?

To be honest, I can’t remember. I do remember his drivers using a burning rag to preheat the air intake on cold mornings on his BMC lorriesSmoker? (Like a WW2 battleship I would think?)
Not for very long with the oil pump blowing bubbles into the sump and the exhaust firing out of the air filterHeard of a fordson major starting in reverse by bump starting using reverse gear when going forwards down a hill. 3 reverses and one forward was the big giveaway!

That engine must have raised the sales of bradex easy start by 1000%My Dad had a transit with a 2.4 diesel York engine in it - you would want a good battery on a cold morning to get this to go at all!

The deltic train engine's were like three of these in a triangle.Interesting - not seen one of these - but I am only a baby (54).
I get the design - were not some train engines the same?
You're thinking of the Deltic.
Mid Norfolk railway at dereham run a deltic engine. Lovely scream when they pull away.Yeah - just googled it.
These things (differing types of engine design) do interest me a lot.
The rental Mercedes Sprinter I am driving scared me the other day. Seriously hot smell like burning rubber and smoke from under the bonnet. No temp gauge to check the engine either! I guessed it was the DPF as the Insignias I had would do it as well. Says a lot for my driving style - first time in about 20,000 milesA lot this modern stuff with DPF's that don't use fifth injectors - if the rings are worn they will fill the sumps up if they keep going into regen.
We often have to change the oil on things that have too much oil (sump contents) in them.
Not had one run a way on a forced regen yet - I do always dip the dipstick first (but not everything has a dipstick now)
