Rubber to metal bond

I am replacing engine mounts on a generator and the rubber block is sandwiched between two brackets, how are they stuck together because the rubber fails before the bond ?

Lord Corp. in Erie, Pa developed the rubber to steel bond, and that failure shown is the correct failure.
FWIW Lord's now makes a glue called "Fusor" and it's suppose to be just as good of a bond.

Wurth do one I use for grips on quads and motorbikes, it is like a black thick superglue.

I used to make mountings for a company I did my apprenticeship with. Glue was made my Rema tiptop, came in a metal bottle. The primer was a polyolefin primer in a glass bottle, purple in colour. The rubber used to fail before the bond. It was rubber sandwiched between two steel plates. Phone Rema, they have some good stuff

Given the number of failed Metalastik type bushes I've seen over the years, I'm not confident any of them are worth a tinker's cuss in the long term.

yea was a bit hairy seeing as though i never had any lessons with an instructor , just jumped in it and off i went anyone can take off and fly its the coming down thats the problem in one piece . as for the manifolds i sent off for some new ones

Any landing you can walk away from is a good one . Just remember they have never lost one up there .

Cos you tuck your trouser in your long socks and don't bother with poncy cycle clips.

This is the "weight". Not a very good pic sorry but basically it is a lump of [metal] bonded to the little block of rubber which is then bonded to the small plate it is sitting on. It has come away from this plate.

The unit then attaches to these lugs on the support arm below, and the arm bolts into the rear subframe via the 2 round (metalastic?) bushes. Then the diff is held in through the 2 holes visible (and is also supported by a bracket at the front).

I would think that the glue is infra red or some form of heat cured with the two parts under pressure ......... a bit like vulcanizing patches on big inner tubes .
You might also need to rough up both surfaces & thoroughly clean with isopropanol for the best keying action .

dont ever use bison metal to rubber glue i bonded 2 rubber to metal inlet manifolds on me microlite engine , got to 300ft and the engine spitted and farted then conked out after a scary emergency landing found the carbs had fell off and the glue gave way character building stuff

Jimmy Deville had a similar experience but carbs icing up, ended up with broken leg after a heavy landing all caught on camera on Engine Addict

Metalastik bushes are normally made by putting two steel tubes into a tool and then transfer moulding raw rubber into it in a heated press. Bond failure is normally due to poor surface preparation of the tubes. I make probably 300 of them a year and never had one back due to bond failure.There is no glue involved….

Made these big versions for the Panther tank I was involved with restoring, they support the torsion bars for the suspension

Guys can anyone recommend a decent glue to bond a rubber 'weight' back onto a steel plate. It sits on my diff as (I assume) an anti vibration device. I've found some "Rema 2000" but can't see where to buy it from. Any suggestions?

As another poster suggested - how about fitting something that is already bonded to a plate already?
There are a myriad of weird & wonderful anti-vibration mountings available.

I think one Co that used to mfr were called Robush in the UK from memory - but a quick Google for anti-vibration mounts (AVM's) should get you somewhere.

Adding to the thread , just been looking for some sort of glue to stick the front of the sole area sole on the a 7 ry old football /basket ball crazy young refugee lad who lives with us with his mum .

Shoes or trainers simply rarely make it much past the warranteed six week period & at between £20 to 50 a pop a pair it's getting beyond the joke for his mum who is struggling on her micky mouse working hours income .

I found what I was looking for and also saw this in the guys web shop for metal to rubber bonding . Hope it helps
