Another one that we used to use when at school. That's why WD40 works, I believe it has kerosene in it.

It makes cutting ali with a jigsaw very easy too- you can use, oddly, a fairly coarse wood blade. I've cut very large alloy yacht spars like this, I mean masts for 50 footers. A final squaring with a rasp is often barely needed.
Without the WD40 you end up with not unattractive steel and ali stick.....

Maybe i should try tossing a match at it and seeing if it ignites.

Kerosene has a flash point of "between 37°C and 65°C" so I'm thinking it won't ignite.

EDIT: Kerosene has a specific heat capacity of 2 KJ/kg/K and in the tenth of a second (I'm guessing) it takes to put a match out it releases about 2J which would heat about 50 milligrams of it from from room temperature to the minimum flash point. I'd comfortably stand in the puddle while you throw the match in, there's no way that's igniting.

good paraffin is getting very hard to source now.

If you look at some places selling paraffin it is labelled as premium kerosene. I use spray lubricant on aluminium, just cheap alternatives to WD40.

Anyone who's ever used a primus stove will know that it takes *way* more than a match.

unless it has something to wick on it takes a lot of effort to light it,

tho i's advise aginst saftey specs those things are near useless and suggest proper goggels

I have trimmed ally on MDF using a lube called nonsil, it stops the wood getting silicone based lubes and oils on it, it was free from a mate but worked well, The main problem i had was the swarf wound round the spindle a few times.
