if a car shows up in London and Glasgow within 20 mins then one of them's a clone.
Or some one attempting a land speed record
i agree its a good idea but they have to allow for the system shortfalls such as not being able to tax it in order to get it home
Come october 1st this year the car tax disc will no longer be issued so no more tax disc shown in windscreen,
i wonder what percentage of motorist know that this is happening, and, the fact that if you buy a car with tax on you car`nt have it,(tax that is) it has to be surrendered by the previous owner, so effectivly you will have to tax the vehicle now as well before you can drive it away legally.
They are saying that the camera network thats been set up is the way they will catch you, along with the old mr plod and his gadgets in his plodmobile, seems yet again another way to prise our wallets open again for a few more ££`s,
if you think about it how much is joe motorist going to be losing by surrendering his tax and loseing that 1 month of whats left of the period of tax,
The reason i ask is i have just had my new tax disc come by post which i applied for online, yet not a jot about the new rules,
Overall the tax will reduce or not inflate so much as the DLA have shed no end of pensionable jobs, , theft of the disc was always a problem as it is still easy peasy to get a set of plates made up apparently .
The best thing is that the Nerk with out tax can't get insurance so will be picked up on the PNR camera's and other checking equipment .
Couple that with the crush the can scheme for offenders who don't /won't or can't pay for the impounded vehicle to be released and the court case , I reckon we as motorists will be winners all round.
I never did like th idea of someone claiming a refund on the tax disc I'd paid for and me having to cough up for the new one , at least this way there will be monies returning to the ME bank if there is any surrender value.
Plus you can now change vehicles any time of the year without financial losses mentioned above instead of trying to plan to change cars at a specific road fund originated date .
if you insure the car on the day you buy it and your new policy does not appear on the MID database straightaway, often takes a couple of days, then you wont be able to tax it to dive it home because the online tax system will refuse on the grounds it can't see the vehicle has insuranceas you can do it online.... and almost certainly from a mobile... I don't think they will buy it
i...........your new policy does not appear on the MID database straightaway, often takes a couple of days,...........
Not sure about that, it won't appear on a police car's ANPR system immediately because they don't have an on-line system. Similarly any previous insurance will still show up (if the car was insured) so the car won't be flagged as uninsured.
......
a guy i know that has an mot station had a customer booked in for a test and the anpr clocked the customer on his way to the station and he had to explain he was pre booked for an mot
yes we already know that which only applied to taxing a vehicle in person what we are currently talking about is buying a car and being able to drive it away the day you buy it with no previous insurance arangements in place ie do everything on the day of purchaseThe checking of insurance for road fund licence has stopped. It was only ever done as a way of checking you had it. Now it can be done via the database so no need for the check when taxing it.
the same mot station owner also told me that they will be doing away with the mot certificate aswell
very true but its still handy as a means or confirming expiry date, the problem i see is that the govenrment now expect everyone to be able to go online but in reality there is a good percentage of people with no internett access and no knowldge of how to use itTo all intents & purposes they already have, the piece of paper you get is officially a receipt and a means of advising advisories. It isn't embossed with the MOT centre's seal.
