Pretty much all been said but yeah, pop riveting is kinda like doing the 'hoovering'. Pop rivets are blind rivets but blind rivets aren't necessarily pop rivets. Some flavours of structural blind rivets are not fun (or even easy) to pull with hand tools in sizes that are breeze with cheap pop rivets.
Just throwing an idea out there as this about cosmetics as much as a way of attaching an ally skin... traditional solid rivets. Off the top of my head i would have thought it'd be easier to get things looking right 'scale wise' as we're talking about a model about 1.2m long. Example of mushroom head solid rivets...
From memory they're 1/8" stem and the heads are tiny relative to cheap pop rivets of comparable style/size. They're available down to 1/32" stem dia and in as many head styles and materials as decent blind rivets. If there's no access to buck them properly (or you can't be arsed) can bond 'em in place.
