Reversing switch suitability

adequate its 60 amp it will walk it . the reason there cheap is there direct from china , a bargain if u dont have to pay import or postage

I knew it would be ok amp wise, but at under £8 with free shipping

For that price I'll have one for my lathe. The dewhirst one thats on now gets a bit warm. I've not had it long either, only about 32 years

u would be suprised at how good some of this stuff i.s there welders might be crap but the majority of there elecrical switchgear is spot on .

It doesn't specify that this is for single phase, nor does it seem to include wiring instructions. Would either of these be a problem?.

it will work ok on 3 phase as well as single. if theres no diagram u would have to work out the switching positions with a meter when it arived . l and neutral input feed and 4 wires from the motor. a pair off the starting windings and a pair of the running

You'll need to get access to the windings of the motor, as above.

You won't be able to reverse it otherwise.

There are various wiring combinations for single phase motors, there is usually a diagram under the lid of the terminal box, some motors are designed for reversing and the necessary wires are terminated in the terminal box.

If not you have to dig inside the motor like Luke suggests.

NB - My switch is similar to the one in the OP, not identical but the general idea will be the same.

There's a coincidence.
I have one of these on order for just such a project.
The one I bought for my slip rolls was £35. I just couldn't resist.

I have a 16 speed MT3 drill that I often use for tapping.
I have in the past tapped M20 with it but winding the tap back out by hand is a bind.

Ordered on 20/2/13 I'm expecting the postie any day now.
I'll keep you informed.

I have one of these on order for just such a project.
The one I bought for my slip rolls was £35. I just couldn't resist.

I have a 16 speed MT3 drill that I often use for tapping.
I have in the past tapped M20 with it but winding the tap back out by hand is a bind.

Ordered on 20/2/13 I'm expecting the postie any day now.
I'll keep you informed.

As the cheapy hasn't arrived yet (now been 14 days) I'm unable to compare, but I certainly can't fault the one on my rolls.
It has a very positive action to it and as mine is at a hight where I can brush against it with my leg it meets my needs admirably.
If the cheapy is half as good I will be pleased, as this will be mounted on the side of my drill at eye height so will be less prone
to being accidentally knocked.

Time will tell.

did anyone buy this reversing drum ?? i fancy getting a couple would i get stitched up for import duty and vat and ripped off at post office
