EML light on is not a reason for MOT test refusal!
Sure? My mates runs a garage and used to be an mot tester, sure he said cant pass with any warning lights on. Of course I could be mistaken?

Then the 4cyl mercs remove the engine cover and it is like a sand castle but in coal you are lucky if you can see the injectors they are usually covered in diesel 'coal' hard solid baked diesel and carbon you have to chip away slowly coz of the wiring etc then the 6mm threads strip yes 6mm to hold an injector!! the last time just to change the injectors took me 1.5 days.( autodata gives 1.5 hrs) this picture is nothing compared to what the one I did, it was like this all along over all the injectors, and it burns just like coal .![]()
Asked the MOT place last week, they shouted over to the tester - ABS, ESP and Airbag lights are a fail, rest aren't an issue...
So I'm holding off on the remap to kill the light for just now and use the cash for a few other things.

The fault will be Injector washers blowing and damaging the connections to the heater plugs with the build up, It needs sorting and fast as it WILL only get WORSE, not a nice job, the way I did it was to have a vacuum cleaner constantly sucking in the opposite direction of the chipping action.Oh.
Mine is like that, I looked under the cover to test the glow plugs (leaving them be, having since learned they're only needed for emissions when cold).
I was worried that I may have an injector fault, when I saw the hard mess under the cover I thought it was melted plastic, but with no idea where from.
I promptly replaced the cover and decided all would have to be well, the idea of trying to extract anything intact from the mess looked unrealistic.

never seen one fail with EML on
ABS light on is now a fail though

The wifes garage did one a few weeks back and burnt out the vacuum cleaner, it was on for so long !!

Agreed but Mainly on the likes of transit mondeos jags etc where the injector body / stem passes through the cam cover ie in the oil cavity, so that the coal is produced in there, and passes down with the draining oil into the sump, but with the mercs the injectors bodies are outside of the cam cover so just fills the void in the plastic engine cover still a mess though . The one I did the 'coal' was the EXACT shape of the underside of the plastic cover no injectors to be seen !!!This hard carbon finds its way in to the sump & blocks up the oil pick up pipe
What about vivaro/Renault traffic injectors!!!!!
My mate has a renault modus, asked me to change a headlight bulb for him...... 2 and half hours!! Front bumper and grille has to come of so you can drop the headlight out to change it!!! Can get it done in just over an hour now but that first time i was cursing him for a week afterwards.
Coz you remap ecu to map out the EGR signal so that the ecu doesnt use that info basically, it is cheaper and it stops the EML coming on for anon flowing EGR.I don't follow that, what has a remap got to do with the above warning lamps ?
I have this job to do on my sprinter, but as its not actually leaking and forming coal, just has 3 bad glowplugs so its a cow to start in really cold weather, its been a round tuit for three years now, I just use the landrover when the weather is bad anyway, or if I have to have the van, crank it longer rather than risk having to remove the entire head to get the broken remains of glowplugs out in the mill :-)Agreed but Mainly on the likes of transit mondeos jags etc where the injector body / stem passes through the cam cover ie in the oil cavity, so that the coal is produced in there, and passes down with the draining oil into the sump, but with the mercs the injectors bodies are outside of the cam cover so just fills the void in the plastic engine cover still a mess though . XC 70 4x4 exhaust manifold gasket you have to sit on the engine with your back to the w/screen and work backwards to get angle of your arms right and then allow your hands down to do the nuts and work by feel, because of the angle of the head, it's impossible to get from under as the exhaust gear box transfer box diff etc etc etcVolvo 5-cyl motor.
Try changing diesel injector on Crysler Voyager with vm diesel's, even the dealers used to have to smash top off the engine, to get the head off and fit a new head !! I did one for local injector specialist and broke the one injector body 3times welding various bolts to draw them out ended up welding 20mm cap head to the inj body and we made a 50 ton puller with a hollow pressram and that was touch and go. I recon the only reason they came out was we stretched them and made them thinner!!!

Any decent remap wouldn't leave the EML on, if it did you would still have the same problem come the next motCoz you remap ecu to map out the EGR signal so that the ecu doesnt use that info basically, it is cheaper and it stops the EML coming on for anon flowing EGR.
that is different to remapping for power though if remapped for power they usually map out the egr anyway. BUT is usually more expensive coz you get more !
