My 26 year old Rover 620 has trim strips running along the doors, about one third up them, which I guess are there to provide protection against other car doors impacting my panels.
These have got a bit battered and I‘d like to replace them, but the parts are impossible to find, and the fixings tend to break off in scrapyards, making them very hard (impossible (?)) to re-use.
I went in to one of the best timber merchants in the area today and he had some wooden mouldings that are the perfect size and profile for the job, 2400mm costing less than £9.
I’m now wondering what to use to prime and undercoat them? It’s obviously for exterior use and flexibility would be good. Either separate primer and undercoat or a combined primer undercoat?. The paint is going to cost more than the wood. I have a can of Zinnser B-I-N (meths based), but that describes itself as primer-sealer for interior or “spot exterior”; not sure what that means; probably not the best start.
Any recommendations please.
