Rendering inside a fireplace

Nice job .... the brickwork cleaned up lovely ...that saddle flue pipe thing looks good . nice thick steel ..is it a bend or a T ? and can you get in with chimney brushes ?...jeff

Bit late for this one. Best thing to use is fire cement to render the bricks, then you don't have to worry about it being suitable for different fire types later on.

Yeah 3mm wall so exactly the same as what I'd get from Crosslings but free

I thought I had the solution for the saddle joint and did it with a geometric solution but it was super not right lol. The actual maths was not too bad and I'm tinkering making a portable version for my phone so I can just fire it up when I need.

I went with a tee as, for me, it was an easier joint to get right than lobsterbacking 4". The bottom is capped off permanently as I won't be brushing up it and if anything blocks then you can get your hand inside to clear anyway. I have a super sneaky plan with foxes tails and everything for cleaning. I'll keep this thread updated with progress.

Went and got the wood for the mantle and steel needed last night.

Yeah , I like T's on a wood stove if there is room for them , and yes I have always done them free hand with a sharpie and angle grinder . The little stove in the bedroom on the north side of our house in the Cretan mountains ,has a little drain off hole with a M10 set screw in it 'cos when the wind is in the wrong direction the bottom of the tee fills up with rain water .....nice bit of wood is it Oak?....

, I have a lovely UC that I'm going to bolt the mantle on to. 100 x 50 with 8mm thick flanges and 5mm webbing. I've cut six 20mm holes in the flanges and braced them with some 30 x 30 x 3 box.
