renault trafic 2.5dci

HI my renault van damaged the crank, had it professional rebuild. crank ground, new con rod, new shells etc fitting and new head gasket.

Anyway got the engine refitted today, went to start no luck.

Friend put computer on it and crank shaft sensor is showing rpm's. i have derv at injectors. Im at a loss to why it wont start.

any ideas?

To rule the simple stuff out have you tried locking and unlocking the doors on the remote in case it's the immobiliser?

Yes first thing I did when I connect battery.

I assume its timed right as it came back for a pro rebuild outfit.

Just can't see the wood for the trees at the min with it

Glow plug voltage and check the timing anyway.

I dont have the timing tools for the 2.5dci

Ill check glow plug voltage in morning as van is outside with snow on it.

Could it be the injector codes are not programmed in

Why did the engine break the crank in the first place? (Re-trace the problem to the start!)

2.5dci doesn't need injectors coded. I did search that and results came up saying they didn't need coded.

Crank was scored on number one conrod. Was rattling.

So hence the rebuild,

If timing is out really dont hold out much as engine was pro rebuilt! And at a grand I ain't going to be happy

So logic would have it!

1. Engine was running when you took it out! (rattling but running)

2. So as long as you have all the multiplugs back on everything?

3. As long as you have fuel bled up to the filter housing and rail?

4. As long as the engine is spinning over at 250rpm or above?

Can you check the rail pressure? (via serial diagnostics) It needs to be 280bar or above to start (it is a HP diesel, it does not need glowplugs to fire in the cold, they are only there to stabilize cold running after initial high pressure start).

I would be checking the timing...

Ill re check pressure tomorrow with computer, all electrical connections are back on and fuel at rail.

engine doesn't sound right sounds like the belt is broke but its not - hard to describe. Place that rebuilt engine aren't open to new yr

pumps 180 degrees out.give it a slight spray of brake cleaner in the intake while its cranking,if it fires then its a fuel problem-DONT USE EASY START!!

It is a HP diesel...

It needs the timing to be right. Suck - squeeze - bang - whosh...

It needs 24bar at the pistons... Compression ignition!

280bar at the injectors and the injectors pulsing! To atomise the diesel!

250 rpm rotational speed for the common rail pump to make the pressure.


If it does not sound right spinning over STOP turning it over!

If it sounds like it does not have any compression, take out the glowplugs and compression test it.

Who fitted the injectors? You or them? Did you get your injectors back?

Thus the need to check rail pressure, you may have got someone elses injectors so thus the loss of rail pressure.

It is a 2.5 DCi we are talking about. It is a common rail. The pump is not timed! It is not a distributor pump.

Please confirm it a DCi? Common rail Bosch CP1 HP pump?

Check.

Rail pressure on diagnostics (it is easy option).

Timing via cam drive (not so easy)

Compression via glowplug ports. (take care glowplugs snap on this type of engine)

Compression via injector mandrels is the last resort (if you can get injectors out?)

Then kill engine builder!

Will not be pump timing, they don't need timing for it to start, the pump guide mark is to align the balance weights in the pump on some type of CP1 pumps
