Remote keyfob

Ok so I managed to run over the keyfob for my vw toureg The rear wheels of a Volvo FH weren't kind to it
Luckily the key /immobilizer transponder thingy still works , but the central locking buttons are somewhat goosed !
Ok so a new one from vw is £230 ,pretty much the price I expected . However I have looked online and there is a place near Stoke Who may be able to repair it remoteskeyrepairs.co.uk
Only snag is I would have to send it to them to acess it obviously being without use of the car for a few days .
Anyone got any bright ideas or experience of repairs .?

yea get national key cover for 15 quid and leave it a month then say you lost it 3 days later u get a new key

Ok but where do you get it reprogrammed ? Doubt a vw dealer would do it ?

There is quite a few mobile key programmers, that will be able to cut and reprogramme a new key. Have a search on ebay.
I spoke to 1 in Nottingham he quoted me £100 for a new flip key programmed for a seat leon, about 6 months ago.

I thought the electronics still worked, can you not swap them over to the new fob.
I am not up to date with the later VAG cars but I expect any VAG dealer or good automotive locksmith will be able to match the key to your car, they can look up the SKC (Secret Key Code, I kid you not, love the way Germans name things), as far as it goes with the SKC anyone with VAGCom or similar could do it for you.

as above, not a big deal, but you may be able to just swap the electronics and blade yourself

Remote Control Programming (1997 ON)Procedure:
1. Switch Ignition ON and leave the key in the ignition.
2. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the Drivers door using a second
key.
3. Using the remote control press the Unlock button once, and the horn
will sound once.
4. Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button once to activate the coding
procedure. The remote control will now be programmed.
NOTE : When performing programming on additional remotes the procedure
is the same, except you press the unlock button 2, 3 or 4 times for the
different remote.
For example : If programming 2 remotes press the unlock button twice with
a 1 second interval between each press, repeat for 3 and 4 remotes.
5. Switch Ignition OFF.
6. Remove key from ignition and check for operation.
7. The coding procedure can be repeated up to 4 times for additional remotes.
8. The ignition must be switched OFF between programming each remote
control.

Its the PATs programming that tends to be dealer only, since that part still works you only have the remote fob to program up and that tends to be fairly user friendly, worth checking on a VW specific furum for the procedure, although for my galaxy which is VAG group the procedure is in the user handbook.

Works perfectly, having tried it on numerous VW's.

As said above, buy a fob from eBlag and swap the internals over.

Be aware that there are two stages to programming a VAG key this is the easy part, the other requires dealer or specialist programming as above.

I only have one key for my Touareg, My mate is the workshop manager at a VW main dealer. I asked him about the ebay new programmable keys and he reckons Every one that has been brought in to reprogramme didn't work.

I wouldn't buy new from ebay I would buy used genuine

Seems like a bit of a minefield ! Well I've got it packaged up to send it to automotive electronics ... It's the only key I have for the vehicle so don't want want to screw up the immobilizer chip or whatever by messing with it myself .

have you looked inside the immobilizer chip is usually separate and clipped into the casing you should be able to keep the chip and key blade so you can use the car while the remote is away for repair

Thanks snooper, I will hold off sending it away just yet .
Unfortunately I'm away in the truck right now and the only screwdriver I have small enough is a flat blade and I need a diddy Philips
Oh well there might be a pound shop in edinborough near where I'm tipping later .

I have a bike not a car...so

I have a programmed key and a standard key.
The program key is for programming a second or third normal key which immobilises the immobiliser.
So if the programmed key goes duff I can still immobilise the bike and still start the bike with the normal key.

Does the car have a normal key that can unlock the doors and start the car with same key,enlighten me please gents.
I mean what if you're out in the wilds and having a picnic with missus and the fob key goes duff,what do you do?
