I have a bike not a car...so
I have a programmed key and a standard key.
The program key is for programming a second or third normal key which immobilises the immobiliser.
So if the programmed key goes duff I can still immobilise the bike and still start the bike with the normal key.
Does the car have a normal key that can unlock the doors and start the car with same key, enlighten me please gents.
I mean what if you're out in the wilds and having a picnic with missus and the fob key goes duff, what do you do?
Recovery comes to mind and how many people carry a spare key with them or actually have more than one key
if the car bike etc was bought used
cant really see them doing anything they could get you into the car if you were locked out but cant see them doing anything about a broken remote fobcall the aa
they can recover it to home for the spare thoughcant really see them doing anything they could get you into the car if you were locked out but cant see them doing anything about a broken remote fob
me, always... if it cost more than 1k I wont buy it with one key unless it is a real steal, if its from a dealer it has 2 keys or I am not interested....how many people .....actually have more than one key
if the car bike etc was bought used
.... and ive needed it as my dog locked the van doors and bloody key was in side ignition . and before u ask how he jumped up on window ledge and pressed the central locking catch
The remote is pre set it won't lose the code, it's the car that learns the code not the other way round that's why you have a set pattern of things to do on the car to get it to accept the remoteyou have sbout 5 minutes after you remove the battery iirc, then it ma or may not hold the code

Fords used to come with a red master key to allow you to program new transponder keys insert red key ignition on / off remove master insert new key ignition on and it was programed, not sure if that's still the case vauxhals you can buy opcom for around 20 quid and it does just about everything on the carIts the PATs programming that tends to be dealer only, since that part still works you only have the remote fob to program up and that tends to be fairly user friendly, worth checking on a VW specific furum for the procedure, although for my galaxy which is VAG group the procedure is in the user handbook.
Edit: or see Snooper's info above![]()
Bit off the main subject but the keyfob for my 307 amazes me!! I have had the car from new for 13 years and have never had to fit a new battery in the fob?? Have only used the remote central locking in all that time..must be 1000's and 1000's of times.....has it got some sort of everlasting battery!!
Solar poweredMy 97 Astra has the original keyfobs and they both work on the remote central locking, never changed the battery!!
