Recomend me a printer

evening all, my faithfull canon printer has been nuked by the makers cos i dared to refill the cartridge at home after i have been refilling it for a couple of years.
the price of a cartridge is around half the price of a new printer so can anyone recomend me a cheap printer / scanner that is nuke proof, i only need to print with black ink

Brother, tried a cheap Cannon good scanner, the printer **** never printed well leave for a week stripes missing bits always used OEM cartridges

mines the cd printers ive had them for that long

and i have a few of them some brand new, used once and put away

scanner was the subject i hardley used so just bought a usb scanner and put it away when not in use

How many pages do you print a month?
As you only need black, a cheap laser printer is likely to be the most cost efficient, and won't suffer if you don't use for extended periods of time.

However if you're printing a fair few pages a month, then I'd suggest looking at some of the subscription options.
After avoiding them as thinking of them as poor value, I'm now on an Epson ReadyPrint subscription. I pay £3.49 for 100 pages per month.
Doesn't matter how much ink goes on the page, it's purely done on the number of pages printed.

I print a good few 100% colour covered photo quality prints a month, so it works out a good bit cheaper than buying the ink myself (I've always opted for genuine ink, as every time I've tried cheap cartridges, they've just caused endless problems with print quality). In the first 6 months of having the printer, I spent £90 on ink, and even using cheap cartridges would have cost me over £40, and they were needing replaced again when I done the sums for the subscription. And I don't need to worry about running out of ink now, as cartridges magically* appear in the post when they're getting low.

*for any pedants, I know that the printer uploads ink usage to Epson, who decide when to send new cartridges.

Hp on a monthly ink deal.... if you dont print much and the heads dry up and block, then its ok cos they are in the cartridge, new cart, new print head

i do rare prints so lazer for me

got fed up with ink jet that every time you want to use you have to do ink head cleans change carts

or as ive done before throw the printer out the window (yes im not joking out the window)

3yrs ago i got fed up with cleaning blocked print heads on a seldom used inkjet, coupled with ink cartridges drying out rather than being used up
I purchased a used HP
colour laserjet,
Not yet had to change colour toners, 1 replacement black toner
Best printer i have ever had

I have an epson ONLY because the print head design is different and i need it to run the odd ink that i have to use.

Other than that, id keep well away from them! : )

Canon would be my choice for a cheap every day printer.

(my epson is the 14000 eco tank - so a CISS also - i have every channel filled with the same custom black ink though!)

r300 x2 and the upgarded model before they removed cd/dvd printing

x6 inks in those

all run the ciss system havent had any problems with them been really good printers for heavy usage and 2 children printing colouring pages for them and other stuff

i guess thats the thing ive found with the epsons - theyre pigment based, so nice if theyre in constant use, but not so good if its only once in a while

Mine too. Scans and prints 2-sided. Send stuff to it directly from Android or Iphone.

MFC-J6030DW, got the same model at home and at work.
